Oilers need a RD not a LD. You have enough cap problems without adding more. You have to sign Kempe and Iafallo and have no space to do it. Oops.

You left out the part where Edmonton gets something for Nugent-Hopkins from Columbus. They're not giving up a #1 overall for Muzzin and Brodzinski. Unless you think Chiarelli = Trump and Blake = Putin.

This isn't as much a 3-way trade as it is two consecutive trades. If it was a 3 way, the Kings would give up an additional piece to Columbus and Columbus would give a piece to Edmonton.

For example, Toffoli, Nugent-Hopkins, & Muzzin would go to Columbus, Panarin & Edmonton's 2nd (probably more realistically a 3rd) would go to LA, and Pearson, Brodzinski, & Savard would go to Edmonton.

The missing piece to acquire Panarin is his willingness to sign an extension with whatever team he gets traded to. No team is going to give up anything significant for Panarin unless he agrees to an extension at the time of the trade.

Honestly, Nugent-Hopkins, a draft pick, and a quality prospect or young top-six forward is probably enough to get a trade done, as long as it's to a team that Panarin wants to play for. Right now, the front runners for his services are probably Chicago, New York, & Los Angeles, in that order. If we are to believe the rumors, he doesn't want to sign in a small market like Edmonton. A 3-way deal like this could make sense, although it likely won't be to the Kings due to their cap crunch.
