Morrissey counting stats wise is almost identical to Roman Josi, who signed 7 years at 4mill, and metrics wise is fairly similar to Ekholm who is even more underrated, at 3.75mill. All of those players' value comes mainly in the form of possession, and elevating their linemates.

Everything Morrissey does well is criminally underrated by the NHL and our GM of the year candidate isn't doing a GM of the year job if he doesn't take advantage of that. 4-5mill is where he'll probably end, maybe even 4-4.5 if he doesn't bridge, and if he does, it will be somewhere in the 3-3.5 range.

As for the trade, we don't need an EK. Trouba is fine for this year, and next year we can trade him for his future replacement plus something. Byfuglien is fine as our premier guy at close to 4mill cheaper than what EK will make in an extension, and we have potential options.

The Myers-Morrissey pairing puts up similar enough numbers to the Trouba-Morrissey pairing that you really have to wonder who's driving the force on the Jets' top pairing.
