Description
It's not what I want, it's what I think will happen...

With the injuries to Weber/Shaw/Byron, a couple of players will get auditions. As these players get healthy, decisions will need to be made if the team is still healthy. The return of Weber mean one of Benn/Schlemko/Riley gets moved off the roster. The returns of Shaw and Byron means that Deslauriers/Peca/Scherbak/Hudon/Plekanec could face a decision of sorts.

The potential trade of Pacioretty factors in here too.

Key to the quick turnaround of the franchise: Kotkaniemi's season. If he contends for the Calder and develops a chemistry with Pacioretty, this could be huge for the franchise. It will lead to two things:
1. he establishes himself as a top 2 C on this team
2. it helps raise the value of Pacioretty therefore netting better prospects

I don’t see either of Pacioretty or Kotkaniemi being on the Habs for much or at all this season. Pacioretty is likely to be with another team before training camp and Kotkaniemi will hopefully play a few games to start the season but then end up back playing as a center in Liiga or the AHL. Need to learn from the mistakes made with Galchenyuk and not push him into the NHL to early.

You are hopefully right, for the sake of Kotkaniemi's long term development. If they push him too soon if he is not ready, it would set back his development by several years (CBJ were notorious for having to bring their young 1st round talent up way too quickly ((in addition to not knowing how to scout/draft too well)) ). Zherdev, Picard, Brule, Brassard, Voracek, Filatov, Moore, Johanssen, etc. etc. etc.

Also, just a fyi, I think that since he is <20, Kotkaniemi would need to go to Liiga or a Junior team, he would not be eligible to play in AHL until 20.

The junior rule only applies to players coming from the chl. Since kotkaniemi played in Finland last year he is eligible to play in the all.
Personally I say give kotkaniemi 9 games. If he is ready keep him up. If not let him go back to Finland. We dont know if he is ready or not.

I understand everyone's concern about rushing the kid, but let's not forget the Dubois' of this world who went straight into the NHL and are on the right path to a great career.

I don't want to see JK play 7 min/gp, get benched when he screwes up, etc... If CJ is going to play him, he needs to play a MINIMUM of 12min/gp, and preferably even 15 min/gp. He's been advertised as a 2 way center, play him like a 2 way center. Don't put him on a line with the Deslauriers/Hudons/DeLaRoses/Froeses of this team. He needs to play with talent.

If they can't make that happen, then I agree, he needs to play in Laval or back in Finland.

with a pacioretty trade... I could see:
Drouin/Danault/Gallagher
Domi/Kotkaniemi/Lehkonen
Hudon/Plekanec/Armia
Deslauriers/DeLaRose/Scherbak
