From the Preds perspective... love Freddy but would do this for sure. I would probably ask for the 1st to be conditional on some playoff success but otherwise sign me up.

From the Habs perspective, what’s the point of this trade.

Other than the 1st, this is a whole lot of nothing. Not like the Habs are in a good negotiating position but I would rather this deal

Patches for Dante Fabbro + 2019 2nd (conditional 1st if Patches re-signs AND Nahville makes it to the 2nd round of the playoffs)

We can retain 50% of his salary this year too, if you want...

Challenge is that salary isn't an issue so retaining doesn't move the needle much. Also, Preds aren't giving up their top defensive prospect for a possible rental (if a contract is negotiated ahead then... maybe).

Gaudreau/Bitetto are NHL caliber players, they just don't have a spot on a Cup level roster where the NHL depth is at their respective positions (Center and Defense). I'm listening if another prospect or pick needs to be included.

No team will trade for Patches as a 1-year rental and Patches won't go anywhere unless he has a contract extension. If that were the case, he would have been dealt at last years deadline or he will be dealt at this years deadline instead. You can probably get Patches cheaper now than if you tried to acquire him at the deadline (or any team).

Adding in a surplus of NHL caliber (aka, average) players doesn't get you a 30+ goal scorer. If Nashville does make a push for Patches I don't see any other deal the Habs will go after other than Fabbro. That being said, I also don't think Nashville needs him so this may not be a good trade partnership anyways.

The return on Patches will end up being an A-rated prospect + a 2nd round pick. I just hope he gets the chance to go to an amazing team because the Montreal media has not treated him well.

Also, cause it's probably not clear, I'm one of the few Habs fans that wants to resign him.
