Description
From what is rumoured, the Sens won't get a better offer for EK that also frees them of Bobby Ryan's albatross contract. They get a potential #1 goalie, a homegrown prospect and two #1 picks (or a #1 and Poehling).

For the Habs, it gives fans a reason to watch. EK would replace Weber as the top RD, but when Weber returns after 25 games, the Habs right side (EK, Weber and Petry) would be amazing. Pacioretty also has to play his a** off to earn the kind of contract he wants. Ryan, playing with two bonafide setup men like Domi and Drouin should get lots of garbage goals.

If it works, and the wounded Habs survive the first part of the season, they'd be contenders with Price in net.

If Montreal is not contending after 40 games, they can trade off Pacioretty, EK and Pleks in February and build around the kids. The Habs would lose two top picks, but EK and Pacioretty -- at the deadline -- should bring in some decent prospects. Habs could also eat half of Bobby Ryan's contract, at which point he might have some trade value.

A good goalie prospect (better than Condon was) and two first picks AND Melnyk ridding himself of $30M he'll have to pay Ryan -- no way the Sens are getting a better offer.
