With waivers claims, you have to keep the players in the NHL, you just can't put them in the minors.

Leafs have plenty of good and young AHL defensemen and even NHL dmen. If any good dmen are put are waivers they certainly wouldn't pass down to the Leafs. Teams who had claims ahead of the Leafs would claim them.

Yes, and the other option is to make room by trading existing roster players. Then you have better odds that at least one player is worthy of the challenge. (in-house, trade return, +waiver)

Until I showed up to speak ill of Kyle Dumba s, 9/10 Leafs fans were drawing up rosters that gave away Gardiner for nothing because acknowledging the obvious the unforced error of wasting Bozak & JVR was taboo among the sheep. The sheep, by the way, have no idea that what they think are their own opinions are just copied from what they see as popular and safe from criticism.

This is just marking one more good alternative for managing the roster, for future evaluation.
