Description
Just to start this off, I'm not in the trade Nylander camp. BUT what would the team look like if that did happen?

If Kapanen proves to be effective with Matthews it does open up the possibility. Pesce would be a stabilizing presence on the team and would open up Hainsey to play bottom pairing minutes (or just not at all).

We know this team as currently structured can score, and maybe with Pesce's help they can defend too.

and nylander is gretzky? Lets look at bother players.
In one corner, we have Nylander. He's a good 22 year old winger, but showed zero offensive progression from year 2 to year 3. He looks to be a 20 goal scorer who will get you 60 points, and that's pretty good. A little less than a third of his points over his career have come on the powerplay, and unfortunately, he won't be on a PP with Matthews in Carolina. He has massive contract issues, as it sounds like he wants big time dollars, big time term, and has no fear of holding out.
and in the other corner, you've got a number 2 d man. He's really good, he's young, and he has an amazing contract for 6 years.

If Pesce and Nylander were both RFA's, this trade would make a ton of sense. However Pesce has a great contract, and it doesn't seem like Nylander is willing to take anything but top dollar, or even more, for a 60 point 22 year old RFA.

This trade makes a ton of sense for Toronto, and zero sense for the Hurricanes.

The thing is Pesce is on their 3rd pair right now so with Hamilton, and Faulk on the roster he's just a solid dman with potential to be a #2 dman. Nylander though your correct needs a reality check in terms of his value to any team in the NHL he has proven to be a top line playmaker that yes probably is only a 60-70 pt but he hasn't fully developed and could be a 80-90 player. But thats the point this is 2 potential quality players. But main problem the leafs are having with Nylander and all leaf fans have caused this is we made nylander out to be a patrick kane type winger when he's more a Sam Reinhart and due to this his camp think he's worth more. But the canes do need a player like nylander thats why they called about his availablity and may have made some type of offer. But if they want him Pesce is probably the dman that will need to come to TOR in the trade.
