This is the second "Fix the Schultz LTIR problem" by trading Maatta for a Dman. Two top-4 D out, one in doesn't fix much.

Maatta hasn't been playing well for a long time. I still think he has a good upside. But to me, it's time to him move on and get some fresh air. Besides, Myers is surely a defensively and offensively improvement from what Maatta is today.

The point is Myers is better than Maatta and Pens can play with Riikola and Oleksiak as our top 6 pair. Jerabek would be a good add to be our 7th d-man. And Pens still would get Perreaut. So, I think it'd be an improvement on both sides of the ice. Besides, we can't forget that we can't bring a top 4 d-man without trade Maatta, cause when Schultz comes back, we'll have a cap trouble pretty hard to solve. Most of guys here are forgetting this relevant point.

so with these trades the pens would still be carrying 8 defenseman, and have 9 when Schultz comes back in in a few months...

The pens don't really NEED to trade for anybody to replace Schultz right now, can just replace Schultz with rikkola for now since he(along with Johnson) can play both sides
