Spurgeon is 28 and is not worth half of Nylander. Hammond is a throw in and isn't really needed. So this trade is awful.

With that said, I do think Spurgeon is a very good player and would be a welcome addition to the Leafs roster, but the price has to be right and this is not even close. You'd have to add a 1st and a fairly good prospect for this trade to make sense. The 6 years in age difference is the biggest reason why the trade isn't good. A 22 year old player will get better. A 28 year old defenceman has likely played his best hockey already.

I would take the TOR trade faster than Dubas could finish his sentence, but I doubt they trade Nylander for this. Spurgeon is absolutely perfect for the Leafs, but for them to take him you'd probably have to add more than just Hammond. If Spurgeon were 24-25 instead of 28, I think this would make a lot more sense for them, but due to Spurgeon's age you're going to have to include a prospect or younger forward. Realistically, the asking price will probably be Dumba. Nylander should be playing center if the Wild traded him (put him at 2C behind Staal and move Hayes to the wing).

I've never been a huge fan of Hayes and I doubt NYR would want Niederreiter since they're in the process of rebuilding. Value seems relatively fair based off of the way Nino has played thus far.

I'd definitely consider that EDM trade. Not sure on value though.

the trade with the rangers is just a little bit off in terms of value-- Nino looks like a great 3rd liner, and a sub par 2nd liner. Rangers already have a few of those in Namestnikov, Spooner, etc.

Both players are having a rough go of things this year, but i don't think the rangers get rid of Hayes until the deadline (where his value will be at its highest)

I honestly think the rangers will send him to the sharks for young wing help (blichfeld) or try to package him with a defenseman (McQuaid or DeAngelo) to get a top 4 RHD (WPG w/ trouba, + they could use a center to fill the stasny role from last year while getting a fill in at D for losing toruba), or a first round pick and lesser prospect.
