Description
Nylander traded to some cap willingly team for futures,, meaning ELC/picks. Leafs have enough cap in 2019/20 for an upgrade on defence. Nylander is signed for three years at 5.75m this year is my guess.

Holy depth overpayment! Rule of Thumb: Never give term to depth, and Never, ever, ever give money AND term to depth.

Don't give Borg more than 1 year, and 925k (ish) will be his salary. I like the Johnsson contract. Kapanen is the only depth player I would give any term, and if you are going to be paying him 3.5, he better be getting 4-5 years. That Leivo contract is more than double what he should be getting for way, way too long. Oz has been good, but not that good, like give him half that for 1 or 2 years. If Matthews is getting 5 years, the cap hit goes way down to like 8 million due to not buying UFA years. Don't give backups that kind of term and money, 1-2 years at 800k for Sparks.

Also, Nylander will not be traded for magic beans like you have here. It will be a player(s).

Oz is just one year away from being a UFA....if he's good enough he will need term. Actually with his bonuses he could making 1.8m this year. Sparks is another guy approaching UFA because of age, if he's good enough you have to give him term. Leivo too, can be a 2020/21. Think it's worth looking for NHL regular, because you don't want to pay them a little more which takes them past their UFa years.

That is not really how 4th line guys and backup contracts are done (unless your name is Ken Holland).... and thank god.
Oz and Lindholm will likely get 2@1.5 (ish) and Sparks will get a similar contract to Mac.

What??? 8m for Matthews???? He can offer sheeted at 8.1m for 5 years for a first, second and third pick. Leafs have to make an offer that costs a team the 4 first even it's for five years.

I pretty much figure you take a million off for each UFA year removed.
8=11
7=10
6=9
5=8

And yeah, that is about right. Just look at the Towes and Kane contracts. It is roughly those + cap inflation.

Not that I think it should be a 5, 8 all the way.
