Semi confused by Hextall's firing as they were playoff team 50% of the years in charge and he has probably top 3 prospect pools to work with for next few years, why did they fire him? Seemed like he was doing decent job of making a team for the future

From what I have read it seems that Holmgren and Hextall were complete opposites in how they view the best way to build a team. Hex wanted to be very patient and Holmgren has always been an aggressive GM, with the McDonald albatross deal being a prime example of him overpaying just to get a certain UFA.

Also, it is speculated that Holmgren and the suites above wanted Hakstol &/or Laperriere fired and Hextall refused.

If Holmgren wanted to help the Flyers he should fire the team president,,,,yep that's Paul Holmgren.

It has to be that Hextall refused to fire Hakstol and that ultimately cost him his job. Unfortunately we now will get a Holmgren style GM who will put us back into cap hell within 2 years.
