Description
Apparently after 10 years of trying to get Sam Gagner, Stan is still trying. We also appear to be scouting Los Angeles. If that's true, the only names I would like to see coming would be Muzzin/Martinez/Toffoli but I'd assume that Muzzin/Martinez is the target.

While Gagner has really been playing bottom 6 roles and even playing in the AHL lately, Stan is I'm sure thinking he would immediately step up his game alongside Kane which is probably partially true. I also wouldn't mind getting Martinez/Muzzin as long as it's not an overpayment. We do have a plethora of young D so as long as it's not Boqvist, Jokiharju, Beadun I'd be alright. Something along the lines of Forsling + Krys + Picks??

I would say moves like this would definitely help out our team this year, still not a true contender though. So is it worth it to add that much 2019-2020 salary and give up some young pieces? probably not
Trades
1.
CHI
  1. Gagner, Sam ($900,000 retained)
Additional Details:
With the retained salary, this becomes a straight up wash salary wise and essentially a swap of a struggling winger for a struggling dman. You could probably add a mid round pick on either side but seems fair enough.
2.
LAK
  1. Forsling, Gustav
  2. 2019 2nd round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Chad Krys

LA gets a pair of young dmen for the future, one of which can play NHL now. Plus a 2nd round pick.

Who knows what it takes to make the LA trade happen, but I like that D corps much more.

I like everything about this except Gagner on the 2nd line. He would be a 4th-line flex option if we were to get him. I would also throw in another defenseman like Tuulola so that they retain closer to 1.5 mil.

Obviously Gagner is not a 2nd liner but Stan is not going to trade for him for "depth" we have plenty of bottom 6 depth already. Stan is probably thinking that Gagner and Kane put up monster numbers a decade ago in the OHL and see if they still have chemistry. I'm not opposed to taking a look at him. But while he's clearly not a top 6 guy, this is more about finding a guy to play with Kane
