First of all Matthews would need to sign offer sheet and he has exactly zero reasons to do so. Second of all, Trouba trade with Detroit would need to start with Hronek and 1st.

The reason would be like 2M more or so per year than Leafs can maybe offer, an extra 14M over the course of the contract and to emulate his boy Johnny T.....but I mean I know it's not likely to happen obviously

Jets can't really be picky on the return. Getting Rasmussen (9th overall pick playing in NHL at 19 years old and doing modestly well) they should be pretty happy imo. Nobody else is going to offer more than that since nobody but Detroit can really feel good about locking Trouba up long term and not walking as a UFA in a little over a year. And Detroit could easily just wait a year and sign him as a UFA and keep Rasmussen if Jets want to play hardball

If i remember it right, offer-sheet is 5 years deal for the offering side.....so that would be 98M offer divided by 5 years.....do the math again

Ah yes you are correct, Wings would have to get crafty shedding a contract and/or using a buyout(s) but theoretically still doable. Dekeyser for example, while slightly overpaid, is still a solid defensive D and would have suitors at a bargain rate. I'll bet if the Wings hit up Lou he'd be willing to help them out.

according to leafs fans JT contract is both a ceiling and a floor for Matthews. So really it's like 3 million more a year. Which clearly is enough incentive to sign it.
