The odd man out- Olli Maatta

The penguins have a solid 10 defenseman that could all be NHL regulars in my opinion but it obviously needs narrowed down to 6.

Letang and Dumoulin are locks and so is Justin Schultz when he returns from injury. Jack Johnson has been great ever since he has been paired up with Marcus Pettersson so they stay as a pairing, and Jusso Riikola has been looking phenomenal and I think he stays as well.

That leaves Oleksiak, Ruhwedel, Maatta, and Calen Addison.

Addison is a 2018 second round pick who looks promising but he will likely stay in juniors or go to Wilkes Barre. Ruhwedel will also likely not crack the roster being an extra defenseman or sent to Wilkes Barre. Oleksiak might actually take Riikola's spot so I could see them splitting games, but the true odd-man out here is Olli Maatta.

He has been playing much better lately and looks good with Riikola, but when Schultz comes back I could easily see his spot becoming taken. He is making $4M a year which the penguins could use next year when they try and sign an effective 3C (or resign Brassard).
