Tatar would be a great fit in Edmonton. This trade would be possible if Montreal is out of the playoff run. I don't see anybody that could replace Tatar on top 6. Maybe Jake Evans ?

Interesting thought. Problem is the Oilers have too many holes. If Sekera comes back healthy for the last few months this year and gives the Oilers another good year or two, he can make a difference to a weak defensive team. Edmonton is probably better off keeping that draft pick (probably top 10) and hoping Sekera can give them another good season or two.

If I read your trade correctly, Sekera is basically being treated as a cap dump with little value as a player and Tatar/Hudon plus some minor cap flexibility are what the Oilers get in return for the 1st round pick.

If Chia is still in charge, it's a maybe. But otherwise the Oilers should decline - potential lottery picks are too valuable.

If this trade was just before the draft, the value of the 1st round pick and who you may be able to draft with it would be much clearer. And Sekera's health after returning from a major injury would also be clearer in June. Much less risk on either side, and it would be easier to evaluate relative value.

Tatar’s been trade for a 1st, 2rd pick & a Third round pick. You get Tatar + Hudon to dump Sekera. The trade is fair
