Seems like a good deal for both teams. New Jersey needs defense and Anaheim has a never-ending supply of them.

How did this trade go through?? Anaheim's Center core is amazing now with Getzlaf, Rakall, Kesler, and Henrique. unless they move one to a winger

Good deal for both.

New Jersey gets a top 4 defenseman for three years; Anaheim gets a very good 3rd line center that will slot into the top 6 whenever the aging Getzlaf or Kesler get injured.

Vatanen has become very overrated in my opinion. I don't think he's anything more than a #3 defenseman, better suited to be a #4. Henrique gives them fantastic center depth plus options, and Blandisi provides some much needed scoring depth.

Seems like a balanced deal. Jersey needs defense, Anaheim needs centers. Long term, Anaheim's center depth could be pretty scary. Jersey now has a pretty decent top four that's not particularly expensive. Could get very interesting if they're able to acquire a little more defensive skill on the back end. They've got plenty of offensive talent.

Don't forget they have Sam Steel coming up in a year or two. If Henrique walks or one of Getzlaf/Kesler isn't effective anymore, Steel can step in and contribute. Plus the defense is young and talented, and a terrific young goalie in Gibson. Seems like they've prepared for the retool on-the-fly when it happens in a few years.

Didn't see that coming, wow.
Anyway, Henrique's a good player but New Jersey got more in this trade.

I love it!!! NJ just got a #1 dman and a pick, and Ana got some much needed offensive help and a good prospect like Blandisi and to top it off a draft pick!

I wouldn't call Vatanen a #1 d-man. Compared to the rest of the NHL, he's more of a high-end #3 or a fringe #2.

Ducks needed a centre to get over. the hump of their injuries. Ducks are on the outside of the playoffs, and need a push to get in. Get in, you have as much change as anyone. Seems like a good deal for both teams.

Fair for both teams. Can't really say the winner though. Hockey trade that should work both teams.

It's a perfect deal for both teams. Anaheim is in need of forwards which they got (Adam Henrique/Joseph Blandisi) and New Jersey needs defense which they got (Sami Vatanen).

I wouldn't say that there's a clear loser in the deal, but I definitely think Anaheim got the better deal, just because of how much it changes their roster. Forward depth was their biggest concern entering their season IMO, and now they have a fantastic group of centers and good wing depth.
