Some defensive help

Description
Leafs have a ton of offensive fire power both in the NHL and minor/junior level. This is just make take on how we can add some defensive help without trading away from the core. You'll notice I have Morgan Rielly as the top dmen, as a think he's turning the corner and on the right path on become a true #1. Not karlsson, doughty level but just under that, and there's nothing wrong with that.

You'll find my reasoning for each trade in the trade details.

1st Line is a no brainer.
2nd Line will be used as a checking line much like this season and last.
3rd Line will be used as a Ozone line. Like the Bozak line last year. And this line is much better defensively.
4th Line is a great attacking 4th line.

Start Rielly and Hainsey to see if Hainsey can still play top min role and work your way from there.
Gards and Braun should work on paper. Braun's defensive should let Gards be a bit more free in the dzone allowing him to get the puck to the Ozone quicker.
Borgman and psysyk is an interesting pair. Both are good defensively but I think there's a bit more to borgman then we seen so far. More offense there.

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Pysyk, Mark
  2. 2019 3rd round pick (FLA)
  3. 2020 2nd round pick (FLA)
FLA
  1. Zaitsev, Nikita
Additional Details:
You might not like the trade, but I don't think Zaitsev fits particularly well with our d core considering he is OFD asking to play a more two-way game. He'll benefit going to Florida or some other team that needs a top 4 OFD. Psysyk is good defensively, won't create a ton of offense but that type of defensemen isn't needed.
2.
TOR
  1. Braun, Justin
  2. 2020 2nd round pick (SJS)
  3. 2021 3rd round pick (SJS)
SJS
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi
  2. Nielsen, Andrew
Additional Details:
Justin Braun is a pretty boring, defensive dmen who is on a cheap contract. Probably a bit underrated since he plays all the way in SJ but he's solid. SJ needs to get younger and with the top 6 potential in kapanen and a top 6, good bottom pair dmen potential in Nielsen, I think there's a good fit there. I kinda guessed with the picks coming back but I do believe to get equal value that picks or prospect(s) needs to be coming back our way.
3.
TOR
  1. Lee, Anders
  2. 2019 7th round pick (NYI)
NYI
  1. Carrick, Connor
  2. 2019 3rd round pick (FLA)
  3. 2020 2nd round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
Lee has the potential to score around 30 on the Matthews line. It's not a surprise to see Carrick since he gets scratched way too often. I don't think Babcock is a fan. I could've done the picks differently but evaluating picks is hard. You can argue it should be Carrick and a 1st.

First two trades are pretty good, but I think it takes a lot more to pry Lee away.

I think Zaitsev is actually playing great considering he is partnered with Gardiner.
I wouldn't trade Zaitsev, rather trade Gardiner for if upgrades are available.

Don't think you can get much for Gardiner. Zaitsev being a top 4 RHD makes him more appealing to other teams. You could fleece them in a trade with Florida since they don't know what they're doing.
