Dream Dealine(read description before commenting)

Created by: ShafferPens
Team: 2017-18 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 8, 2017
Published: Dec. 8, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
NOTE: Just know that cap space increases throughout the season, so it will fit cap wise. Pens actually would have around 2m in cap space after all these moves at the deadline.

PIT-BUF
PIT Side: Gets a top 6 LW who can go very well with Geno hopefully but as a rental.
BUF Side: Gets a prospect Botterill(former Pens AGM, current BUF GM) drafted in the 2nd round in 2016, a 1st, and a 3rd that can become a 2nd. Kuhnhackl is just a contract spot.

PIT-MIN
Speculation by McKenzie today said he wonders if Cullen could return back to PIT. Russo(Wild Insider) and JR(Pens GM) had a conversation where Russo said JR hinted at Cullen returning. Makes sense because Cullen is falling out of favor in MIN and was healthy scratched today.

PIT-COL
Depth move. Nothing much here.
Trades
1.
PIT

  3. 2019 3rd round pick (PIT)

As a fan of neither team, I'd like to offer the following:

I love the Pens with Kane. That's a good fit.

But the problem is that there are WAY too many pending UFA 1-way 20-30 goal wingers that will be available this year. The price you are paying for Kane will never happen. EDIT: KANE WILL BE MUCH CHEAPER.

Because any GM can look at a 1st + prospect + more request for Kane then just go to McPhee for any of 3 options (Perron, *Neal, Marchessault), Toronto for *JVR, or NYR for Rick Nash. Note that the two players with the * are categorically better than Evander Kane and will be the ones who get the higher offers. And there are only so many buyers who will drop 1sts this year - so they can't all be worth that plus. Additionally a number of 2 year UFAs like Detroit's Nyquist, Habs Pacioretty, SJS Pavelski on terrible teams may be made available. Yes Habs fans, your team is terrible.

Due to the expansion draft, this is like the worst year ever to try and sell a young 1-way winger who isn't....like an All Star.

Buffalo isn't getting a 1st + much for Kane, they'll be lucky to score the late first and B prospect due to supply and demand, so you may get a bargain if you are a Penguins fan.

I would predict Kane moves for a no more than a late 1st and a B prospect, or more if there is a salary dump coming back.

Nice text there. I believe Kane can easily get a 1st+, look at Hansel last year and Kane is twice the player Hanzel is.

Last year was a different year. The supply of rentals that were halfway decent were few and far between. If I remember correctly, Hanzel might have been the best one actually lol.

For the Kane trade, I’d rather give them another prospect or late pick than giving up Kuhnhackl. Not because I think Kuhnhackl would be a huge loss, but because he is a cheaper contract that’s nhl ready. Then for the Cullen deal, add Reaves to the deal to give them a forward back and make the salaries work. Just my opinion

Oh I think Kane gets 1st +, but the proposal is 1st + 3rd + roster + prospect. I think that the supply of wingers will drive that down, so Kane will just be 1st + prospect, and in the proposal from the OP, Pitt will be able to save their 3rd and Kuhn

But teams can easily beat prospect+1st.

Reaves isn’t getting traded and Kuhnhackl is for cap/contract proposes only.

That is the best post I have read on this site! Rutherford always strikes before the trade deadline if he can. We know he has to make a couple key moves and if the market stays as you have eloquently stated. He will be able to get a 3rd line center and some depth without giving away a valuable piece. He might even hold onto Ian Cole. What do you think he will do? I look forward to all your posts. Thank you.

The value in this trade proposal is definitely the retention of 2.625 million.
