I think it more than fair for Ottawa if they're rebuilding. But why would Colorado who are likely to finish out of the playoffs give up so much? They really only have Karlsson for 1.5 years.

I don't think it's enough. Ottawa would literally have to be better after the trade in order to do it. This deal doesn't do that. Plus all three of these guys are under 6 feet. Talented yes, but small. Pass.

He will resign in COL. And Ottawa are going to rebuild I think. And also I think that Colorado would get much needed boost from EK.

The height should not be the stop, because they have big guys in their line-up and young big guys coming up. So little more skill and speed would be good for OTT.

Yeah i'm pretty sure that Colorado is on Erik Karlssons 10 team no trade list, Why? Would Karlsson want to go to a rebuilding team not happening.

SammyT_51. Be serious. To say Karlsson "will resign in COL" is just nonsense. Karlsson (and all UFAs) have the choice of signing with 31teams. Make the trade if you want, but these silly caveat regarding guaranteed extensions are just so meaningless.

This makes no sense from the Avs side. They are a rebuilding team that made great strides this year with the haul from the Duchene trade. It makes far more sense to stick with these young assets rather than swapping them out for a recently overhauled and aged (although still effective) guy who will likely go UFA in eighteen-months. Even if he would re-sign, this move is the wrong one if Colorado is committed to a proper rebuild. You can make these kind of moves in three-years when there are logjams at certain positions, but Colorado is not at that point yet.
