How does it not? You get rid of Jeff Petry's whale of a contract and replace it with 2 solid puck moving defenceman. The james neal trade maybe a hit or miss but it hes the type of person Tavares would strive to play with, and it gives MTL the scoring depth they want

Tavares? You do realize that he's not with MTL right now, and probably never will be... Right?

Also, Ceci isn't worth that much. Change the 1st for a 2nd, and that makes more sense.

Furthermore, VGK would never agree to that trade. You would need to send another prospect that is worth way more than Morrow or De La Rose.

You never know that. MTL has the cap space for him, and if he chooses to leave the Islanders, it will almost be certain hes coming to MTL as they have the highest chance of winning from the teams that can afford him. Ottawa will hold out for that first pick because they are losing a puck moving defenceman i think, Id love to give out a second, but i think a first is in range of Ottawa. James Neal doesnt matter too much, just thought that he could be somebody that can kinda come in and mesh, but it doesnt really matter, its the Schmidt who MTL desperately needs

The Habs might have the best chance of winning next year out of the teams that can afford Tavares, but we are going in the wrong direction. And these trades wouldn't fix us. I really don't want Ceci if we have to give up a 1st, Petry is not that bad and Vegas wouldn't do that trade. I'd rather hold onto that 1st round pick this year than trade it for a UFA winger anyway (who is not gonna sign for that low), I like Schmidt though.

I agree, heres the thing tho my friend, MTL is effed. Carey Price has years of 10.5 mill of space taking up. I believe that these trades should be done now and quick. I think Jeff petry NEEDS to go. Hes a horrible d-man that makes up 5.5 mll... too much, just scrap him, and let Mete slowly build into the real role. Ceci is okay, but maybe youre right. should be a 2nd and Lindgreen for him. As I said before, Neal was more of... panic buy, and a player that I think would strive to play with Tavares, maybe we should just leave him out, but Schimidt is a fantasitc D-man that will help alot. Again, this all works out if Johnny T wants to come here. If not, Scrap the team lol

Giving up 2 1st round picks (most likely high with the way were playing) in two very deep drafts does not help us. Especially with the lack of depth in our prospect pool. Habs are not winning the cup this year, might as way take the hit and retool, start fresh next season

What makes you hate Petry so much? He's generally solid at everything, just prone to some brain farts every now and then. Giving Mete more ice time doesn't have anything to do with Petry anyway, they don't even play the same side.

I look at his game and I'm just dumbfounded at how bad he is... not only that, but he makes 5.5 mill per year... My god, he really to me, is a 3rd pairing d-man at best. He is so bad defensively and barely produces anything offensively. There are players like Schmidt and that do exactly what hes supposed to do at half the cost. I do know, but he, to me, is just beyond over rated

Fair enough, youre absolutely right on that, maybe 1st rounders were much. think 2nd rounders would fair well?

Sigh....Petry has a NMC so moving him will be hard.

BTW I totally agree with you on Petry. Every time I watch him Im just dumbfounded why everyone likes him so much. I think the answer is he rarely makes huge mistakes. Plays within his means most times, never is really out of position. Etc. I can't stand his brain fart mentality and stone hands when he enters the offensive blue line, this guy dumps a puck into the corner on a breakaway if you let him. BUT he is a solid overall player. Not nearly a 5.5M player of course but at 4.25M he'd be solid.

Aside from Petry, you are thinking to narrowly. You want Ceci and Schmidt, etc but your giving away almost nothing in value. Joe Morrow? He's a waiver wire toss up at this point. In what world is anyone going to look at him say I really want this guy? As for Lindgren, he does have value but not nearly the value you are bestowing on him.

I know why you want Ceci and Schmidt but that is the same reason why those GM's would hang up your call if you proposed this to them. Brian Boyle was traded at last years deadline for a 2nd and Byron Froese. you want Schmidt and Ceci with cost control for the same thing?

Come on guys. I seriously urge you to use previous IRL trades as basis for your trades in the future. If you can back it up with comparisons to real life trades, you'll have a better chance at convincing people.
