I think a lot of people see this as 'guy's who's names are said differently that you'd think with the spelling'. It's about guys who's names most people say wrong. Nobody says by-FUG-lee-in, toes, Boser, or anything like that or at least that i know of.

Maatta is often mispronounced that I have no idea how pronounce his name. It's either matt-a or ma-tta.

also, nobody seems to understand how to pronounce Niklas Hjalmarsson.
a) it's a long 'i' in 'NIklas.'
b) it's not a hard 'j', and the double 's' gets an 'sh' sound. it's more of "H'YAL-mar-shon" than "JAHL-muhr-suhn."

The first name is, but I personally pronounce the last name as: JY'ALL-muhr-sun

Close, but the c in Plekanec is not spelled with a diacritic. If it was pronounced "Plekanetch", it'd be spelled Plekaneč. But Tomas himself says he doesn't care how you pronounce it lol

Also, while North Americans can get a pass for anglicized pronunciations, some native Europeans butcher their own names.

Ondrej Pavelec = "Pavelets". And if you want to get really technical, his first name should be pronounced something like "OHN-jay". The pronunciation of ř is tough to master.
Zdeno Chara = "Hara". It's the same "ch" sound you'll find in Scottish and Hebrew.

Many Czech and Slovak names fall victim to name-butchering. It's amazing how everyone can pronounce Jaromír Jágr and Jakub Voráček's names correctly and sloppily butcher everyone else's. (Also, as a note, any Czech or Slovak player with the first name "Tomas" usually has an accent over the 'a' and a caron over the 's', meaning it would be pronounced "Toe-MAHSH.")

I also usually give a pass on anglicized pronunciations for North Americans, as well. For example, Justin Abdelkader is actually a quarter Syrian; his paternal grandfather changed his name from Yusuf Abdul Qadir to Joseph Abdelkader upon emigrating to the US. I also don't really complain about Ryan Johansen, even though, in Swedish, it would be "YO-hahn-sen."

It's typeset "Olli Määttä"; the double "ä" is pronounced as in "mad," and the single "ä" is pronounced as in "cat," which seems incredibly similar, but the 'a' in "mad" is slightly longer than the one in "cat."

Butch Goring says everyone's names wrong at least once a game. Even a simple name like Anders Lee, Butch has called him Andrew Lee.

It's Americans that hack and slash French names, even Americans that HAVE French names i.e, Favre. Sorry Brett, it's pronounced FAV-re
