There really isn't any need for the buyouts. Niemi, and Hemsky are UFA at the end of the year. In the worst case scenario, you bury them in the minors and they walk after the season is over.

As for Montoya, he's better than Fucale. For the record, I think Niemi is better than Fucale too.

I think if ever the Habs decided they didn't want Schlemko anymore, they could trade him and acquire and asset without needing to buy him out.

As for MacKinnon, what does COL do with a 5.5M$ goalie in Varlamov?

I'd love to see that lineup, but the trade needs help. Varlamov would have to come to MTL in the deal. Then MTL would have to add more to the trade...

How about Price & Pacioretty for Varlamov & MacKinnon?
