No Habs rebuild can happen unless these two guys are traded. In order to facilitate a rebuild both guys have some "what if" scenarios happen to ease a potential trade.
What if:
Either
(8 years left down to 4 more years with Weber)
- You knew Weber would retire in the 22-23 season and his recapture penalty would only effect Nashville. So once he retires, you would have NO cap hit penalty like NJ has with Kovalchuk. He's completely off your books.
or
(8 years left down to 3 more years with Weber)
- You knew that at the next NHL lockout in 21-22 (Lets assume its a half season like last time), owner will agree to buyout Weber's contract with a compliance buyout which means his cap hit won't effect the salary cap. So basically team has to pay a small portion of actual money to him but there would be no cap hit penalty against your team
What would his trade value then be right now?
What if:
Either
- Carey Price asks for trade and due to his big contract agrees to go to any team, waiving his NMC. MTL agrees to retain 38% of his cap hit for the remainder of his contract, meaning his cap hit will stay 6.5M for the rest of his 8 year contract extension as well as his NMC is now voided.
or
- Carey Price asks for trade and due to his big contract agrees to go to any team, waiving his NMC. MTL agrees to take back every single one of that other teams bad contracts as well as his NMC is now voided.
What would his value be?
