It's not that Strome isn't a good hockey player. He's probably best suited as a third line centre on a scoring line and is capable of spot duty on the second line. He can play wing or centre and would offer some depth scoring for the Devils, while being capable of playing up in their lineup. Speers I don't see as a top 6 forward in the NHL so the a lottery protected first for a middle second seems fair when you are getting the proven proven scorer.

No room on Pens roster for that trade and no reason to do that either.

Value aside, I don't think the Devils would have interest in Strome. The Devils play a system that relies on their Forwards being fast and able to provide defensive support (especially in transition); those are probably Strome's biggest weaknesses as a player.

Not sure Virtanen goes for that. Wasn't he a 6th overall and is still very young? Not sure why Vancouver would do that.

He's 21 and has just 9 points in 33 games. He's playing less then 10 minutes a game. He's not going to meet expectations that management had when they drafted him. Maybe Benson and a second for Virtanen and a 3rd or 4th.

Just seems a little bit early to give up on him since they're still in rebuild mode.
