Clean Up Pt 1

Created by: JhonnyCanuck
Team: 2017-18 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 28, 2017
Published: Dec. 28, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trades give Detroit around 24.6 Mill of cap space going into the offseason
Trades
1.
DET
  1. 2018 1st round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Devils take on Ericsson's contract for Detroit's 3rd in 2019 and to keep their own 4th in 2018 as a part of getting Green. Think:
1st and 4th for Green
3rd, 4th(2019), and Ericcson for a bag of used pucks
DET gives back the 4th along with their 3rd next year for them to take Ericsson
NJD
  1. Ericsson, Jonathan
  2. Green, Mike
  3. 2019 3rd round pick (DET)
2.
DET
  1. Enström, Toby
  2. 2018 5th round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
With Scheifele being out 6-8 weeks, the Jets may be looking for a center to keep pace in the Central.
WPG
  1. Nielsen, Frans
Additional Details:
Wings eat Enstrom's remaining cap for the season. Only get a 5th for Nielsen due to his cap hit and length
3.
DET
  1. 2018 3rd round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Wings might have to settle for a 2019 3rd rounder(due to the Blackhawks limited draft picks) but with Crawford hitting the IR, Chicago needs a goalie if they want to keep pace in the Central
CHI
  1. Mrázek, Petr
Additional Details:
Wings could regret sending Mrazek to Chicago but I don't think he has a future in Detroit.

Budget NJD aren't taking that cap hit for Ericsson....no team is? They can just spend that money in the next few years on a real hockey player. Same with Neilsen in 12 weeks he has 14 points. Jets will forgo his 6 points in the next 7 weeks if he was Jet when Schiefle is on lTIR and save 17m to spend on a real player. Cap dumping doesn't work the way you suggest.

Throw a 3rd rounder to the Jets as compensation. Neilsen is a talented player, he just doesn't have much to work with in Detroit. Could be a solid 2nd/3rd C.

Nielsen is only in his 2nd year of a 6 year deal with Detroit? There's zero chance that Nielsen would waive for Winnipeg he knew he was coming to a very bad Wings team when he accepted to go there. We're stuck with Nielsen for at least another 3 years then his value after that will be 0.
