Montreal - Gets a conditional 4th for a guy who would probably be our #3 Goalie when he came back (Probably placed on waivers). We got an asset for somebody who was on the IR for the last 3 months with a Concussion,
Edmonton - Gets a decent enough backup to actually be able to win games while in net, Gives Talbot some much needed rest come playoffs (if they make it)

Im going to say Montreal wins, but its a win-win for both teams

Something I forgot, If Edmonton doesnt make the playoffs, its a complete waste for Edmonton

What is the condition? Anyone know yet?

Frankly even if it was for free, Im ok with it. This is a win / win situation no matter which way you look at it. Montoya is cheap and when healthy a decent backup.

I don't think it's going to make a significant difference for Edmonton, but they needed another viable option in net. Without knowing the condition, it's still a good trade for Montreal. Niemi has done well enough and Lindgren is always ready to be called upon. As KSI said, it's basically something for nothing as the oilers could have claimed whichever goaltender we did send down.

It may be to late for the Oilers, ten points of the playoffs and in 13th place in the Conference. But as we seen, having a good back up is so necessary in the NHL. Imagine if the Oilers had collected just two more wins with a good backup when Talbot was injured. Maybe just 6 points out of the playoffs, and the team wouldn't be playing so discouraged as they are now.

Too little, too late for Edmonton. If they were in the playoff hunt, this would be a solid addition however. I feel like Montreal could have squeezed a little more out of other teams.

For a goalie who is coming off a 3 month Concussion? with his stats? and other teams know when be gets back either Niemi or MONTOYA are going on waivers? I don't think so

Oilers passed on Subban and Pickard, didn't try to trade for either of Läck or Pickard after passing waivers and they actually go and spend assets on Al effing Montoya, who has had a terrible year so far.

For once, I'll congratulate MB on a good trade. The Habs also have solid goalie depth so dealing Montoya doesn't hurt them at all.

Gallagher was a 5th round pick, and Mete was a 4th rd pick. I’d trade a Montoya any day if it gives me a chance to draft similar guys.

This trade has gotten way too much analysis for being so small. Edmonton needed a backup, Montreal had an extra one. Pretty simple

Edmonton needed a Backup, there were 3 or 4 goalies put through waivers in the last month that are better than Montoya. Montoya is coming off a 3 month concussion and when he came back, he would've went on waivers. It's a nothing trade but Chiarelli burned an asset when he didn't have to and Bergevin got an asset when he shouldn't of been able to

Looks good for both teams, but now who does Montreal have for a backup? Is Fucale ready yet??

When was the last time you watched hockey? Niemi/Lindgren/Mcniven All ahead of Fucale in the depth charts

The thing is when montoya got back the habs would have to send one to the minors with a chance they would gotten waived so at least they got something for montoya

but he was better than neimi

Not really, Niemi IMO is a step higher than MONTOYA but they are both trash

I think they'll put him on waivers before playing him in that 7th game. LOL

The season is over for them. No point in playing him more than 2 extra games.
