Absolutely Crazy 4-way Trade (made by a mad man)

Created by: dragonlocks
Team: 2017-18 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 4, 2018
Published: Jan. 6, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Spooner back home to OTT, Khudobin and Condon swap 1) to help OTT with failed goaltending 2) to help OTT with making cap space for the trade, 2018 1st round pick (BOS) to OTT to close the gap between Spooner and Dzingel and to pay for the 2 1st round prospects (White & Brown); Hartman for Dzingel swap locking CHI in to a sub 2.0 contract for an extra year, Seabrook comes off CHI books in exchange for a 3rd round pick to CAR; Hanifin to BOS in exchange for a 2018 CAR 2nd and a 2019 CAR 1st with Hartman and Brown going CAR way. BIGGEST PROBLEM I SEE IS SEABROOK HAS A NMC AND WOULD HAVE TO WAIVE IT TO PLAY FOR CAR, but otherwise this interestingly helps everyone out. THE BIGGEST THING I WANTED TO DO DIFFERENTLY BUT THIS WEBSITE WOULDN'T LET ME IS MAKE CAR SUPPLY OTT WITH THEIR 1ST ROUND PICK IN 2018 INSTEAD OF BOS AND THEN BOS GIVE CAR THEIR 1ST ROUND PICK IN 2018 INSTEAD OF 2019 BUT ON THIS WEBSITE I HAD TO MAKE ONE TRADE BEFORE I MADE THE OTHER TRADE SO I COULDN'T DO IT THAT WAY. IF THIS WAS REAL WORLD SCENARIO AND IT WAS A 4 WAY TRADE THAT IS THE WAY I WOULD WORK IT, BECAUSE IN THIS SCENARIO BOS IS THE BIGGEST LOSER, BUT FOR THE PURPOSE OF GETTING OTHER GM'S TO PULL THE TRIGGER IT MADE SENSE FOR ME TO BE ON THE SHORT END OF THE STICK. SO PLEASE TAKE THAT INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN CRITIQUING MY TRADE.

This whole thing is confusing but there is no way what you are giving up ends up with you getting Hanifin.

It's confusing because this website won't let you make a true 3-way/4-way trade... shakes head

I'll try to make it less confusing...

Basically:

OTT: Spooner, Khudobin, CAR 1st 2018
CHI: Dzingel
CAR: Hartman, Brown, Seabrook, BOS 1st 2018, BOS 2nd 2018, CHI 3rd 2019
BOS: Hanifin, White, Condon

I hope that makes sense???

What each team would be giving up...
OTT: Dzingel, Condon, White, Brown
CHI: Hartman, Seabrook, CHI 2019 3rd
CAR: Hanifin, 2018 CAR 1st
BOS: Spooner, Khudobin, 2018 BOS 1st, 2018 BOS 2nd

I don’t see Carolina giving up Hanifin at all regardless. So I don’t think this is the trade that makes them trade him.

I'm not sure that package gets you Hanifin AND White.
Carolina might be okay with the return, but I'm not sure they can handle that cap hit.
Ottawa and Chicago are the losers here.

maybe not, but 2 1st round draft picks and a 2nd and a 3rd is a pretty hefty sum of an offer especially when 1 of those 1st round draft picks has been pairing with Patrick Kane for the last several weeks...

I can't see Ottawa giving up their last two first rounders for Boston scraps. And Seabrook has a NMC for a reason....not to be traded especially to a non playoff tea,.

Chicago definitely takes a hit but there is a price to pay for shedding Seabrook's salary (this is actually not a bad hit) OTT gets an upgrade in goaltending and their first round pick back which has been a severe sting after the lopsided Duchene trade. BOS takes on some salary with Condon, but he's a hometown kid and he's locked up for the next couple of years which is a concern as Khudobin becomes a free agent at the end of the season. Plus they shore up a solid LHD to step in for Chara when he hangs them up. Maybe this trade needs some tweaking, but I think the premises for something really great is here...

Khudobin has been on fire and would be a considerable upgrade to Condon

... but you're right the NMC of Seabrook would be a HUGE monkey wrench (I made note of that in the description) If that could be overcome I think with maybe some shuffling of draft picks this could actually work...

Well there's that and you'd have to get 4 GM's talking which is probably next to impossible...

"Well there's that and you'd have to get 4 GM's talking which is probably next to impossible.". Well, they like talking, my on a golf foursome, with lots of alcohol involved, but to talk trade/business....not so much.

Ottawa is getting absolutely hosed and Carolina wants a top 6 center now if they are moving Hanafin. No chance at all.

CAR want's scoring they get Hartman who has been on a line with Kane for the last several weeks and is OP for 41 PTS they get a former 1st round draft pick (11th overall 2016) Logan Brown, and in essence a 2nd and a 3rd without sacrificing their 1st because they get it right back from BOS

OK let me ask you this...

What if the trade went down as illustrated digitally only CAR also supplied OTT with their 2nd in 2018 would that tip the scale for OTT? In essence OTT would get their 1st & 2nd in 2018 back plus Spoons and Khudobin???

Granted BOS would be paying a heafty price for Hanifin (2 1st and a 2nd) but would this slight change sway your opinion at all?

You are underestimating Brown and White or way overvalueing Spooner, and you have them downgrading in goal. Spooner isnt worth more than 2nd and Dobby a 4th. That package isn’t nearly enough. On top of which they are loaded with big contracts that they want to move. They are in great position to blow up the roster and rebuild. Brown and White would be a big part of that. This deal does not make them better now, help them rebuild, or solve their problems. Makes zero sense for them. They would be better off cutting out the other 2 teams and take Hanifin for themselves if they were doing something like that.

As far as Hanafin goes....good luck. They turned down 3 1sts on draft day fo trade out of the slot because they prefered to take him. When we asked since they asked for Pasta. Picks and prospects arent going to get him. They have no need or desire to move him and have all the leverage. He’s not going anywhere unless they are overwhelmed by an offer or get a Ryan Johannson-Seth Jones type of deal. So its all moot.

You may be right about Hanifin (though I think it is a fair offer; they still may not be willing to part with him, though he has not progressed as quickly as CAR had hoped) Anyway, you may be right about that.

I do think you're giving Colin White waaaay too much credit. I think he will be an awesome bottom 6 guy for years to come and put up some good offensive numbers, but I don't see him being a top 6 guy... ever
Logan Brown on the other hand has the potential to crack the top 6 and I think that in itself is a big + going back CAR way (in addition to the picks)

Again these are just my opinions, but you are right, the point is moot... there are so many reasons this trade can't happen: the first being Seabrook's NMC, and he's not moving for anything short of a Cup contender (that's just a fact) The second being that 4 GM's sitting down and drawing this up would be next to impossible (even if they all agreed it was mutually beneficial) I've never even heard of a 4 way trade (even a 3 way trade is rare). It's cool to put this down on paper (or the computer as it were) but at the end of the day I'm just 1 guy pulling strings; when you start to involve other people it gets a lot more complicated.
