Weber to the Leafs - Counter proposal

Created by: Campa96
Team: 2017-18 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 11, 2018
Published: Jan. 11, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This, in my view, would be the beginning of Montreal's full rebuild (which IMO would be the correct path to take), but will never happen as long as Bergevin is in charge. He would be basically admitting that he has failed and his ego is too big to do so.

The trade would give the Leafs at least 4 seasons of an elite D-man at a discount price and give them a very solid chance at the cup while the kids are on an ELC. Meanwhile, the Habs are tearing it down and trading every valuable piece over 26 for picks and prospects. The plan would be to suck 1-2 years, while the Leafs are dominant, draft well, and come back as a young team in the near future.

I just don't think Weber is movable without taking a large contract in return.

Doubt Bergevin is willing to retain that much on Webers contract for the next 7 years or so if MB is trading Weber that means Montreal is heading for a full rebuild here.

If Bergevin is dealing Weber Montreal is in full rebuild mode, Doubt he would retain that much for 7 year if they're in rebuild mode doesn't make sense just saying.

MB is never gonna trade Weber or go for a full rebuild. He would be admitting that he lost the Subban trade and his whole tenure has been a failure. But this is Armchair-GM and if I were the GM this is what I would do.

Yes because it's still a contract with 9 years left. It's not bad salary wise but the term is terrible.

This is one of the worst takes I've ever read on this side. Second round exits must have made you go mad.

first round exits and missing the playoffs must have made you mad......or just the general dumpster fire that your team is.......just bc you took the nhl worst contract doesnt mean other teams are dying to get weber at 32 for the next 9 years at the price of great young top 4 d man price....does any still think weber is a top 20 nhl dman beside mont fans?

weber is 32 signed for the next 9 years at almost 8 million a year............

What a completely terrible move for Toronto! And why would the Leafs trade for anyone presently on the LTIR with no immediate timeline for return? There is 100% no way the Leafs would ever make such an offer for Weber, let alone to the Canadians.

If your rebuilding is the perfect time to retain salary. Look at the Kessel trade, Leafs retained 1.2 mill. It does happen. As for big contracts, Leafs currently have no big bad contracts. Only contract (not player) that I don't like as of now is Marleau. Great player decent money but too long a contract for that amount.
Habs would have to retain more then 1.5 mill though if they wanted to trade to Leafs. Leafs would not trade Lilegren either BTW.

My goodness, get a life. Weber's contract is not as bad as it seems. People who don't know better just look at 7.8M and 9 years and make there decision without even looking at all the facts.

Only thing "woof" here is you're lazy comment comparing Weber to Orpik. Orpik is 37 years old and has cracked 20+ points in a season......once...... back in 09-10! Weber has more goals then that in one season......3 times.......

Here is some reading material for you. looks like you need it.

No one is dying to take Weber's contract. That's why the return on an elite 1st pairing defenseman with retained salary is just a first, an A-prospect and a B-prospect. You're opinion of Weber is clearly tainted by the contract and you seem to be unable to separate the two, but there's no question he's still a Top-20 defenseman in the NHL. This is still the opinion around the NHL and both his results on the ice and the selections for international tournaments prove it.

We might be a tire-fire but at least we have something to look back to that is not a history of chronical disappointment. Also, we literally got further in the playoffs four years ago than what you ever did in the past 20 years.

the facts are they matched a offer sheet from philly yes nashville did.............but at the age of 32 and signed for 9 years at almost 8 million thats terrible...i also believe if he retires there is a penalty to nashville which the nhl wont enforce so real loser is mon

get a life? youre on a fake gm website trading players to teams in hypothetical situations and criticizing others for their opinions....? i mean i do the same thing but i dont tell ppl to a life...... and i said weber i a glorified orpik with offensive upside

ill explain since you seem to not understand that wording

glorified - represented in such a way as to appear more elevated or special
more offensive upside- this simply means weber has more offensive ability than orpik which you stated after i already stated it.....and i noticed you weren't like hey man weber is really goood defensively...... you just stated his offensive abilities which he in a good year gets 50 points.....down year 40 sooo yeah awful contract present to future

weber is still considered a top 20 dman? ha idk maybe 19-20 depending on how you manage the list? sure dont consider him elite ......elite is like karlson burns.......but maybe you just use that word loosely
