Tavares sign and trade(s). Pay up.

Created by: joshelkin
Team: 2017-18 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 11, 2018
Published: Jan. 11, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Any team here would probably need to throw in a contract as a cap dump to NYI. I just didn't bother to include it (except for Bonino really). Use your imagination.

Point is, JT on a sign and trade is going to cost the farm. No team would give up what I've proposed without the GUARANTEE that they'd control him for the next 8 seasons. Look at what Duchene got. Tavares would blow that out of the water.

Did every team here overpay? Probably. But we are talking about a sure fire top 5 center in his PRIME. Prospects are great, but not a lock.
Trades
1.
CBJ
Why? CBJ is a legit piece from the Cup, but would NYI trade him to a rival? Doubtful. It would have to be a HAUL and a half.
    2.
    NYI
    1. Bonino, Nick
    2. Fiala, Kevin
    3. 2018 1st round pick (NSH)
    Additional Details:
Rights to Dante Fabbro and Eeli Tolvanen
    NSH
Why? NSH is also very close to a cup. Tavares as C-1 could push them over the top. Included Bonino because he wouldn't be needed in Smashville anymore and they would need the cap space to resign.
      3.
      MTL
        Why? Because Bergevin.
        4.
        NYI
        STL
Why? STL is at the top of the west and has Tarasenko locked up to a very friendly deal all things considered. Tavares could put them over the top.
          5.
          NYI
          1. Kapanen, Kasperi
          2. Nylander, William
          3. 2018 1st round pick (TOR)
          TOR
Why? Toronto has been infatuated with JT for over a year now (as well as Stamkos). Might as well throw them in the mix here.
            6.
            NYI
            1. Connor, Kyle
            2. Trouba, Jacob
            3. 2018 1st round pick (WPG)
            4. 2019 1st round pick (WPG)
            WPG
Why? See basically every other western conference team I put here.

STL gives you the best package and makes the most sense for JT to resign.

I agree with you. The CBJ trade is very tempting but the probability he gets traded with the division is almost zero. STL makes sense, though I hope we never get to that point.

The Nashville trade would be a huge W for the Isles. Fabbro is a top 4 D, Fiala a top six winger, and Tolvanen a high end sniper.

The Blues might be hesitant to give up Dunn, Thompson, a first and Thomas.

I could see the Blues putting in Walman instead of Dunn, very good prospect in his own right.

Sign and trade price is so high (not unfair) that teams would be better off outbidding each other in the summer and keeping all the ELC guys to play while JT is making some big bucks. JT has NTC so he doesn't have to take a trade.

laugh The Montreal deal isn't even close for a sign and trade on John Tavares the rest aren't bad.
