I can't fathom Carolina doing it though.

Carolina wouldn't so it really doesn't matter if Montreal does it or not.

They have the depth in defensive prospect to do that,

Otherwise, What do you think CAR needs to move forward?

Like this, no... but everybody has got a price. What do you think CARs needs are? What MTL could offer?

Speaking for Montreal, I would take it hands down. Pretty sure Ron Francis wouldn't.

Like it or not, Hanifan has almost mythical status in Carolina already. Better to leave him there. Ask for Jake Bean and/or Haydn Fleury (It would be fun to see the Fleury brothers together ... too bad they're not Quebec Fleurys, but it's a Franco name). My ask: Roy, Gauthier, Fleury (or Bean). Maybe the Habs would toss in Byron and Pleks (max salary retained), if the Canes' goal is to have a really deep team for a playoff run.

Leave the picks out because people get really emotional about them.

Carolina needs a #1C like Montreal they need more scoring depth from the sound of things Pacioretty would be a nice piece for Carolina just not getting Necas or Hanifin Francis will want a young potential #1C for Hanifin not saying he will get one but that's his asking price.

IMO without the picks the trade seems fair... but no way Carolina would do this!

If not, it's pretty darn close. I am not a pro scout, so it would be those guys who'd know the intricacies of each player's value.

I think it more has to come down to what the market will be come the TDL. GM's usually overspend or take risks when they know they are a good team but they have an injured player and no one to replace that player. For example, if a team like lets say Washington had Ovechkin go down with an injury till mid playoffs, they could potentially see value in adding Pacioretty at the TDL and would be willing to pay the type of value MB would be looking for.

I'd target Bean and Lindholm personally. I'd be disappointed if that's all we got for Pacioretty, but I'd also be satisfied.
Losing a LHD prospect shouldn't even phase Carolina. Are they willing to choose Rask over Lindholm of it means adding Pacioretty?

I would concentrate on just on sending Patches to Carolina....where there is a fit. Alzner is close to negative value, especially to team with lots of dman,
