Draft Day Trade With Carolina

Description
Seems like CAR has a goalie problem. Ward will hit UFA (plus he's bad) and Darling isn't working out at all. So wondering if CAR would be down to send their 1st for Grubauer plus take Darling's contract off their hands. CAR has a lot of great prospects so don't think they are pressed to get more. They need to start winning and getting into the playoffs. And of course this depends on where CAR is picking. I'm thinking if it's in the 8-14 range they'd do this trade.

Grubauer is young, cheap and very good. He's 7th in 5v5sv% with a 93.99sv% this season. He's freakn 4th in 5v5sv% since 2012-2013 (when he entered the league) with goalies that played at least 1600 minutes. Darling is 20th. You can remove the 3rd if CAR eats some of the salary.

As for the Caps roster they definitely need to add something in the bottom 6. Would like to get Eller back possibly (or Thornton) but need more cap space which is attainable by trading Orpik or buying him out. Ultimately it would be nice to add Gersich but he's a college Junior so who knows.

I don't think Carolina would give that much for Grubauer.

I’d rather not have all that money tied up in goalies. I understand why it may be necessary here, but I’d pass if it meant taking Darling without retention.

I think if Caps take the bad contract in return they would. But like I said, it depends where CAR will pick. I think they do it if it's barely or outside top 10.

I wonder if Caps could take Darling on, turn his game around then trade him. Or yeah it would be better if CAR ate some money.
