I'd say Grabners worth a first easy.

He scored 27 goals last year and is on pace for more this year, he only makes $1.65mil, is a key penalty killer, one of the fastest if not the fastest players in the league, plays in key moments game in and game out, etc etc etc.

Guys a beast and if you don't get a first for him he ain't worth trading

Why retain on Pavelec when you are already taking on the Lehtonen contract.

Yeah but how many goals are empty netters or short handers? I like Grabner, but he's only a bottom 6 player that's great on the pk. His analytics are meh too. His shooting percentage has been unsustainably be high too, but that's helped by the empty netters. And he's also 30 years old. For reference the Caps just traded Johansson for a 2nd and 3rd and he was only 27 and just put up a 58 point season.

Grabner is a special case. let's ask the other way round? how many of his goals are PP goals? none. he's a 5o5 threat every time he's on the ice and generates breakaways like no one else. his analytics are victimizied by NYRs "system" that's constantly bleeding shots. Caps trading Johansson is a terrible comparison. 1. their hand was forced by the cap and 2. that trade was regarded as terrible by virtually everyone. Grabner is worth a late 1st easily. that's the price for good complimentary pieces at the TDL. think of Hanzal.

I'm not going to say Grabner isn't worth a 1st, but his value isn't as easy to nail down as other players. He's an exploitation player. You put him on the 3rd line or against defenders that don't respect his speed.

There's a reason he gets heavy dzone starts and doesn't play on the power play. Ozone starts negate the advantage of his speed. He's obviously not a playmaker or complementary winger for a scoring line.

In a playoff series, teams are more dialed in to their opponents and his effectiveness in that role is reduced.
If you're going to spend a 1st round pick on a guy that you probably won't use on the PP or for offensive zone starts, it should be as a last resort or because you already have everything you need elsewhere.
