Detroit Reunion

Created by: HattyBarzal
Team: 2017-18 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 16, 2018
Published: Jan. 16, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a complicated, and to be fair, a long shot of an idea. For the islanders it solves a plethora of needs.

1) A top 4 defense-man with experience and offensive upside.
This will help support Leddy and ease the minutes on the younger defense-men currently being exploited.

2) A reunion with a reliable defensive center, with offensive upside, leadership and familiarity with the organization.
Most importantly Nielsen's help on the PK will do wonders to improve the currently last ranked unit.

For the Red Wings, this supplies them with assets to rebuild with.

1) Along with a 1st & 5th round pick, the addition of Sebastion Aho will give them a near NHL ready defense-man with offensive upside.

2) Nelson will provide them with scoring depth up the middle. In all likely hood this will not replace what is being lossed in Frans Nielsen, although there is that chance all Nelson needs is a change of scenery. Another scenario could see Nelson being flipped to a contender looking for scoring depth going into the playoffs, bringing in more assets for the Detroit future.

Lastly, there are two wild cards in this trade.

1) No Trade Clauses - Will the chance to possibly compete in the Stanley Cup playoffs be enough to have both Detroit players waive their clauses?

2) Salary Cap - In order for the trade to be successful Detroit has to retain at least $1.6M of salary cap.

All in all, it could be a fair trade for both sides.

I agree with the above contract. Need DET to retain on Fransy. We have too much money tied into aging players

I like Neilson but hes already declining and his contract is BRUTAL. Isles should keep away from him. Mike Green is ok though.

I don't understand how so many people have Detroit retaining so much salary. THEY HAVE NO CAP ROOM! This summer when Zetterberg retires that will be another $6mil spent on players not even on our team.

Great for Detroit, if we need to retain some on Frans we should do it.
