Intersting. Swap one bad contract that nobody wants for another. Martin has bigger cap hit but 1 less year. Why not.

I think this would do a couple different things for us at a small cost. The cost is we would have to place Postma on waivers once McQuaid returns to reassign him to Providence and risk losing him for nothing. What it would do for us is if Martin has any gas left in the tank he would be a LHD asset going into the playoffs in case of injury to Chara, Krug, or Grzelcyk. He would keep Grzelcyk honest and competing for a roster spot (not that, that has been a problem all season long). We would lose one year of a bad contract (with Beleskey) so when the OEL sweepstakes come around we would be in a spot to make a substantial offer (if we only extend Chara for 1 year) we would have expiring contracts of both Martin and Chara.

For SJS it would alleviate 1 mil in cap space. It would also give Beleskey another shot at making a roster spot in the NHL.

Where they're at now both players are unwanted; this could be a fresh start for both players and possibly (2) unmovable contracts that really could benefit from a swap???

LMFAO. I read this and for whatever the reason thought it was Matt Martin from Toronto.

So...I mean, I do it just to get out of a bad contract quicker.
