Wings get Shattenkirk

Created by: HockeyNut82
Team: 2015-16 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 17, 2016
Published: Jan. 17, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I feel DET doesn't have a true #1 Dman. Since those don't grow on trees, Shattenkirk will have to do. I don't think this is possible with Ericsson's contract. Too many big deals for Green, Big E, Kronner, Plus DeKeyser and Marchenko are up for raises.

Hi HockeyNut: You forget about the 4.25m contract for Abdelkaker and the Mrazek' new contract. Gee, look at the salaries paid by the Wings for their defence they should have a number one or at least a handful of twos.
If you see who I support (The Leafs) maybe you don't think I should think and even say the following but here it goes:
Detroit has won 3 playoff rounds in the past 6 years. Maybe it's possible, probable, that Detroit is not an elite team in the NHL but a better than average team, maybe about 10th overall. Detroit has long term expensive contract for some players (like most teams). They need to get top value from those players in order to move up to elite status again.

Hi palhal: This is 15-16 so Ab's new contract doesn't kick in until next year, which shows in 16-17. Along with Mrazek's new contract whenever he signs. I hope Kenny does a 2-3 year deal to make him prove he's a starter rather than handing over another long term deal. I love what I see so far.

As for the wings, I've never said they are elite so I'm not sure where that came from. We do agree that the wings have expensive deals on D and no true #1. Maybe DeKeyser grows into one, but who knows. For the wings to truly be elite they'll need a #1 Dman (via trade or many DeKeyser) and a good goalie (which looks like Mrazek will fill that role) until then they will stay average / above average at best.

Plus I am worried Ericsson's contract will haunt DET for years to come.

Thanks for replying. Sorry for the confusion, I didn't mean to indicate that you thought Detroit was "elite". Was just sorta saying that I doubted one player elite Dman puts Detroit back into the elite class.
Hey, you're worried about Ericsson's contract? Well if that's the only one you're lucky. Most teams have two or three.
I guess the way to be a championship team is for your stars play to their contracts and more (Keith, Seabrook, Hossa, Toews, Kane) and have some of the others play above their salaries (Saad, Panarin, Shaw, Odyua, Richards, Tevo,) The Hawks seem to be able to change their bottom group with effectiveness, result will three Cups in six years. PS sorry if mentioned Hawks if you're a Wings fan.

It's alright, the Hawks are doing a great job doing what the wings did to win their Cups. Hope the same plan works for your leafs. The league is a better place with a good TOR team.
