    They may have the best assets but when they lock up their core, they won't have enough cap space, even with the rising cap

    You have to add at least another first rounder for the Montreal trade to go through. Let's say you value Patch a Bellows and a 1st, which to me is still too low but close to his value... You're also getting a very good goalie prospect, a middle-6 player in Shaw (you may see him as a cap dump, but Montreal has plenty of cap space and has no need to get rid of him with all the cap space they have. Might as well leave him out of the trade if you see him as a net negative) and a 4th, in exchange for two contract dumps. The whole thing doesn't really make sense.
