Armstrong has talked about how the Blues are interested in competing now while also evaluating ways to keep the long-term strategy intact. So it sounds like he'd be open to moving a top prospect but only if he can find the right deal. Given the market options, do you think it would pay off to add a scoring forward to the current roster? What would be the cost? Just want to hear some opinions. @Turner33 @BluesBandit @LGBstl @Ktaaffe8 @Sicarius @BluesGetTheCup @Chopper02 @worcat @bjprice and whoever else I missed.

I like the idea of getting a guy like maroon. We need to get some net front presence, and he can protect the skill guys. We just cannot, I repeat cannot, move the big 4. Trading them could be the difference in winning a cup and trying to win a cup. I'm all for trying to win, but would much rather actually win! Getting top9 production from those guys the next 3yrs allows us to spend in FA. We will still have a surplus of pieces next season to upgrade, make a few 2or3 guys for 1 deals.

I think Maroon could be a good fit with the Blues. They could use a guy with a bit of experience like him, and who can score some points, and a lower line LW could help them too. I think this would be a great move by the Blues. Now i'm not saying he's a 4th liner or anything, but he could be their 3rd or 4th LW and he could help them a lot in the playoffs. Like Turner33 said, they could use some net front presence, and Maroon does that. They shouldn't g crazy here, but if they can get him for a pick or something, it makes a lot of sense.

I think a guy like Vanek could help. He’s a good depth guy, won’t cost us much and is a right hand shot which we need. He could slot in with Schwartz and Schenn if Yeo wants to keep the lineup “balanced”. I’m only okay with getting rid of the big four IF it brings in a star center. I do not want Maroon

Maroon is not a good player. Nor does he do anything to help our team. He's a 4th line player who gets top 6 minutes because they need someone to protect McDavid (formerly Getzlaf). Blues are already slow enough as it is, why get another slow guy who doesn't help the team? At least Vanek goes to the front of the net, is a skilled guy. Can set up the play and score, plus he doesn't cost a ton. Maroon is Matt Belesky/David Clarkson 2.0

I don't think Maroon would be a great fit. Would he help? Yes. But he's another third/fourth liner that would add to the cluster we currently have and he'd cost a little more to get than other options.

If I had to pick, I'd go with Vanek. Yes, he'd be another third/fourth liner but he would contribute nicely on the power play and come at little to no cost. Our PP unit is possibly the worst I've ever seen in my lifetime and adding Vanek wouldn't solve all the problems but it would be a welcomed addition.

Pacioretty would cost us one or two of our highly anticipated prospects that I think the Blues should keep unless it's a ground breaking deal that all but guarantees the Blues a Cup.

Those moves aside, I think the Blues could make some moves by cutting some players loose. Gunnarsson and Schmaltz should be considered as trade chips near the deadline, especially if the Blues continue to trend down with our goaltending. Neither will get a remarkable return but they could provide some draft picks. Sundqvist and Paajarvi should be sent to anyone that'll take them.

I do like Vanek and he's having a really good year. I think he is pretty creative offensively. something we've been missing. Plus he would be good on PP. If a 2nd rounder + Paajarvi would get it done, I'd be down. Not sure if he's a guy that Yeo would be excited about but if we're looking to solve problems on offense he would be a good choice.

I kinda like the idea of going after Michael Grabner. Depends how mch he'd take - but, small contract one more year next year.

I think he would be the best option. It definitely wouldn’t take much to get him either. I think Vancouver would want Jaskin and 2nd instead because they have control over him next year.

Can't believe I'm saying this but I wanna keep Jaskin haha. I see what you're saying though, VAN could probably get more than a 2nd, and Paajarvi probably can't be flipped for much at all (although he is a good depth option, he's just not much better than guys that show up on the waiver wire).

I like Jaskin and wouldn’t mind keeping him, but with Kostin in the fold we have a better option there. Blues probably start with Paajarvi, settle on giving up Jaskin. I agree though, would much rather keep Jaskin if possible

Absolutely no to Maroon.

Absolutely no to Patches.

Hoffman is the best option but the cost would be someone that I don’t want to see go. The Blues have 4 prospects in Thompson, Thomas, Kyrou, and Kostin that Army has confirmed generate a lot of interest from other GM’s. If the Blues are after a top 6 player like Hoffman it’s a pretty good bet one of those 4 are on the table.

Personally I don’t think this team is a top 6 player away from making a run. They’re a playoff team and that’s about it. I’m hopeful that Army thinks the same thing.

My wish is to have both Thomas and Kyrou up on the club as soon as their OHL seasons are over. Nobody could convince me that Sundqvist and Paajarvi should be on the roster over those 2.

Army signing both Berglund and Sobotka is somewhat of a head scratcher. I’d rather keep Sobotka but Berglund isn’t tradable with the NMC. I’m kind of expecting Sobotka to be moved. Maybe he’s packaged and the Blues get a 1st back for 2018.

Maybe the roster is this by year’s end:

Schwartz Schenn Tarasenko
Steen Stastny Thompson
Berglund Thomas Kyrou

If Kyrou and Thomas can both make the jump to the NHL, and be impactful, next year could be the start for runs at the Cup for 4+ years. Add Fabbri to next year and the team offense could potentially be very dynamic.

The Stastny situation is interesting. He’s a very good 2C but is somewhat injury prone and will be 32 entering his last big contract. I’m not keen on the Blues being the holder of that contract. It’s a really big if, but if Army has no intention of resigning Stastny, trading him could be in the best interest for the Blues. Plenty of fans would freak out if Stastny is dealt but it could make sense long term.

If you are suggesting the Blues would receive a 1st round pick for Sobotka, I would disagree. If you meant Sobotka plus whatever else he is packaged with, then yes I agree they could potentially acquire a late round pick. I would hate to lose Sobotka but as you suggested, eventually there will very little room for our current 3rd/4th liners to have quality playing time. The Berglund and Sobotka contracts don't bother me as much as the Steen contract. His offense is declining as each game goes by but he's making up for it with leadership and penalty killing. However, I'm not sure his $5.75 over the next 3 years is worth that. I think if Berglund was presented the right conditions to play for another contender that he would entertain the transaction. He was a list of 20 teams he could go to, it's not like he'd be forced to play in Phoenix or anything.

The Stastny scenario is entirely up to him. I feel that the Blues would keep him on after his current contract expires if and ONLY if, Stastny identifies his role with the team as a faceoff specialist/leadership role and agrees to to a 4.5-5 mil contract per 3 years. If he infact wants to retire with the Blues and understands that a youth movement is coming, he would be happy to be apart of that chance to play for a true contender during his last ride for a Cup.

It may be my own personal opinion but I'm not sure I would welcome Jbou back after his contract is over after 2019. Even if he accepted around or under $3 mil, I feel that he has lost a step and will only get worse. I expect Walman to replace him by then as another LH shot and by then Edmundson and Dunn will have fully moved into their proper roles with the team. I expect Gunnarsson will be long done before this scenario even breaks wind. If Bortz is willing to stay around another year or two at $1.15 after his current deal, I'd be open to that as well. Not a bad guy to have around as a 6th or 7th dman.

Thomas nor Kyrou can’t play in the NHL this season unless under emergency situations. It’s not like college where you can sign a guy right away and use them.

I agree no to Patches or Maroon. Sobotka should be traded for cap reasons if nothing else. I like him as a player, but not worth keeping around. I don’t want JBo back after THIS season. Just buy him out and be done with it.

This makes sense. Sobo could be a difference maker on a Cup contender that would render a team to push forward for dealing a First Rounder but I still don't wish the Blues to deal him.

I like the idea of trading one maybe two of Kyrou, Kostin, Walmen, Barbashev, Schmaltz Sanford Blais for a scoring winger. Would be interested in any of Hoffman Pacioretty Nash Grabner and Kane for one or two of those prospects. Or someone like Vanek for just a pick. I do not think Maroon helps us much and I would not trade away Thomas or Thompson for any rental and probably not any above mentioned player other than Pacioretty. Pacioretty is an elite goal scorer that also has leadership capabilities, basically everything we wish Steen was and that Army thinks Steen is.
Also would trade Fabbri for someone like Pacioretty or Hoffman.

I would argue Sundqvist is a better option on the fourth line than Kyrou or Thomas. I dont think we will see either of them this season unless a plethora of injuries happen. I think army should choose who he thinks the best THREE prospects out of Thompson, Thomas, Dunn, Kostin, Kyrou, Barbashev and the rest (This is my perosnal order) and make his top 3 untouchable then be willing to move any others for a player that can help this year and in future. Hoffman, Galchenkyuk or Pacioretty like players.
Also agree that at the draft we could trade rape Pitt again for their first and give them Sobotka. And would be willing to move Fabbri in a deal to not have to give up a future 1st.
EXAMPLE -
Fabbri, Kyrou and whatever players to make cap work for:
Pacioretty/Hoffman/Galchenyuk

I'd rather see what Kyrou or Thomas has to offer and see the young kids play. Sundqvist has 3 points in 30 games. I think we know what we are getting with him, just a body on the bench to fill in a few minutes to give guys a breather.

Sundqvist can be a serviceable 4th line center. I actually like the way he plays, but he's not an offensive guy, so the lack of points overshadow his defensive play. B

I just cannot see the Blues going into next season trusting that Thomas AND Kyrou would be able to play full time. Maybe they'd keep one forward spot open for Kostin, Thomas, Kyrou to compete for. I see Thomas, Kyrou and Thompson being massive parts of our team for years to come, but I would be willing to trade ONE of them for Pacioretty, Stone, etc. Someone we can re-sign or that has some term left

Plays 10 mins a game on the 4th line every 5 games. Not saying he has been a good player but I think as far as 4th liners go he is solild. Should be groomed into taking over Brodziaks spot after the season.

Listening to 590 the Fan tonight on the radio and they talked about a rumored trade between the Blues and Montreal. Allegedly it's Price for Allen + Robert Thomas + Draft Picks!?!? What do you guys think? Not flame the messenger, I just heard it on the radio.

I too read an article about this, this morning. I do not think paying a goalie 10.5 mil is smart not to mention while he is 31-37 years old.
Even if it is the best goalie in the league.
