If they wanted Hanifin over Marner, wouldn't they have just picked Hanifin in the draft?

Trolling....

But to address your question, draft you take best player available... Marner addresses Carolina's needs, Hanifin addresses Toronto's... Its makes sense both teams could agree to swaps players.... but again, this poster is trolling,.

Yeah the Carolina trade just won't work! Like both players but if Leafs are going to use Marner and premium futures (picks) they will want to insure to plug an area of need. They would want a RDman and possibly a future center. . . .such as Necas, but currently far too loaded on the LD to expend that type of capital!

The logic that Leafs need any available Dman just doesn't fly. As Doug indicted Leafs are quite happy with the development at LHD. If a Marner or a similar player is ever traded it would be for a position of need such as RTHD or centre. Why are the Leafs such sellers at TDL? The goal is still to make the playoffs.

Not intended to be trolling, just legitimately don't see the fit for another LD on the Leafs. If you're going to give up Marner, get something you need.
