Why not?

Team: 2017-18 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 26, 2018
Published: Jan. 26, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I am very optimistic and I have no reason to be.
Trades
1.
ARI
  1. McDonagh, Ryan
Additional Details:
May be a reach for three young players from the Coyotes - a team trying to build via youth - but I think getting a competent and proven leader/defenseman to play with OEL would be appealing to Chayka.
2.
NYR
  1. Leivo, Josh
  2. Nylander, William
Additional Details:
#FreeLeivo.
TOR
  1. Grabner, Michael
  2. Nash, Rick
  3. 2018 2nd round pick (NYR)
  4. 2018 4th round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Okay, yeah, so this is another stretch BUT I don't think it's that far off. One of Nylander, Matthews, Marner needs to be moved (cap reasons (way to be greedy Marleau ;))) and it's DEFINITELY not going to be Matthews (and possibly not Marner) and Toronto would get another scorer, along with a player who can flourish on a competent team. Since Nylander is still on his ELC, the draft picks, IMO, help guarantee his arrival.
3.
NYR
  1. van Riemsdyk, Trevor
  2. Wesley, Josh
Additional Details:
TVR is a d-man I can see being a bottom pair-7th man for the Rangers. Wesley just thrown in as a solid prospect that has decent potential and has bounced around between Charlotte (AHL) and Florida (ECHL).
CAR
  1. Holden, Nick
  2. 2019 5th round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Get this garbage off this team.
4.
NYR
  1. Gadjovich, Jonah
  2. 2018 1st round pick (VAN)
VAN
  1. Zuccarello, Mats
  2. 2018 5th round pick (NYR)
  3. 2019 3rd round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
As much as this would pain me, I think the only way Zuccarello should be traded is if we could reel in a VERY solid return. As much as I don't think Benning is this stupid, a 1st and Gadjovich for a proven NHL 1st liner (Boeser-Bo-Zucc?) and two draft picks could possibly work. Yes, I am optimistic.

Arizona Trade: You're right that Chayka likes the idea of a steady top-pairing veteran to play with OEL (after all, that's why they traded for Hjalmarsson). Now that the team's blue line and net are healthy though, Defense is of less concern than Offense. Even if Arizona wants to add veterans, I don't see them swapping major Forwards for a Defenseman.

Toronto Trade: If you're right that Toronto needs to trade Nylander (or someone similar), they wouldn't be interested in a package of Grabner, Nash, and a couple picks in return. Nylander is a 1st line Forward (which his 5v5 numbers show) at 21 years old, and Leivo is a wildcard who could be fit for a middle 6/PP specialist role; together, the two of them are worth far more than a pair of rental middle 6 wingers, a 2nd, and a 4th. Plus, the only reason Leivo gets scratched in the first place is that Toronto has a logjam at Forward; why would they want a pair of rental Forwards?

Carolina Trade: You said it yourself: Nick Holden is bad. TVR is better, younger, and cheaper than him. The Hurricanes don't have any reason to make that trade

Vancouver Trade: There's a year-and-a-half left on Zuccarello's contract, and this season is already lost for the Canucks. Even if Vancouver wants to trade picks/prospects for veterans, I don't think they'd forfeit a lottery pick in this draft for the last year of Zuccarello's contract.
