NYR post deadline and summer 2018 FA

Created by: joseyourbrose
Team: 2018-19 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 29, 2018
Published: Jan. 29, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The trade deadline moves I give credit to Blueshirt Banter. From reading articles (mainly BSB) and reading through other prospects/players. I gave my best guesses to my research.

The contract numbers I got from @Cane_Matt . He was good at predicting contracts from the last free agent class.

The most uncertainty is what JT Miller could get in a trade - and whether you want to trade JTM, Hayes, or neither. Another unknown, among the many, is who is the extra winger NYR want to go after, I chose Vanek.

Ultimately this gives a new/young look to the team. I think it also gives Hank one last run that he deserves.

Follow me @joseph10jr for more or to crucify my decisions if you want. If I missed giving credit to anyone else, I will update this.

?????Leafs aren't trading their second best forward arguable and heck of a lot more for 1.5m year of McDonagh, and you want a young starting Dman in Dermot and a first also. C'mon

I’m a NYR fan and these are horribly lopsided trades. If we have learned anything under the Gorton GM reign it’s that he keeps all trade chatter close to the vet. See brassard and stepan trades. I trust Gorton and think now that he has convinced Sather and Dolan that a rebuild is required we’ll see what he can do. He inherited a messy team with aging players and long contracts. Combine that with a depleted minor league system and you are really handcuffing a GM.

Hopefully he can put a solid stamp on this team for years to come.

wouldn't be too surprising if they trade Nylander for a defender when 1) they don't play Nylander properly (he gets Buch treatment), and 2) they also receive a goal scorer to replace him and 3) they get final pieces to win a cup this year, which is what trades at the deadline are for

Is that the logic, the Leafs getting McDonagh is going to put them over the top this year? Leafs are third in the Atlantic. They are no where being close to the Cup, despite the begging of Rangers to take McDonagh.
Tampa, Boston, Washington, Blues are teams that might use the boast, but they are trading so much either.

For what its worth, the Leafs are tied for 4th most likely to win the cup according to Vegas

I read BSB too, love reading that site. But theres no way the Leafs do that, way too much coming from their side. Also I don't think WPG accepts that either. Nash trade is fair, maybe they'll get a B level prospect in addition. Didn't see a Grabner trade.

Yeah and obviously it didn't work because it would take far more then just Miller to get Trouba, And why would Trouba leave a Winnipeg team trending up for a Rags team that probably heading for a fire sale any ways.

after thinking it over there are 2 things to point out

                  1) reports say the rangers and jets discussed a trade involving Trouba and JT. if someone can find me a link saying it fell through because the rangers had to give more, I'll shut up. I thought it was because the rangers didnt want to give up a top 6 young F.
JTM shows signs of dominance and there's also times you can never find him on the ice. if a team thinks they can bring out the potential of JTM consistently then they'll definitely give up someone talented. I picked Trouba because they are expected to get similar contracts at the end of the season, they recently engaged in discussion (as mentioned, I never read anything saying the value wasn't there, I thought the rangers didnt want to pull the trigger), and Trouba, though not as volatile as JTM, shows signs of inconsistency at times as well along with getting injured somewhat regularly.
The reality is, right now nobody really knows what JTM will bring in return, hence, I went with someone who is expected to get a similar contract.

                  2) when I look at TOR, I think they have the talent to win the cup - vegas bookies agree. Based on the responses, I think I value Mac more than most people do. Pair him with someone who is half way capable of making good plays and I think he's a top 5 Dman in the league. Add in that you'd get him at a discount for 1.5 years and I think you get a heavy return.
Generally speaking, I think if you're NYR and trying to trade Mac, you demand a young talented C and either a 1st rounder or a high caliber prospect, and then maybe some. If you don't get it then walk. Again, maybe I value Mac more than most. I looked at TOR because of the wealth they have in the minors and because I think the only piece they are missing to win the cup is a lockdown Dman.
Grabs by himself should require a 1st rounder based off his late bloomed goal scoring ability while at a discount.
If you disagree and think Mac isn't worth that much, maybe you start at this point if you're NYR and negotiate down to someone not as promising as Dermott. The last thing I do if I'm TOR is trade Liljegren. If you saw him in the World Cup you'd understand.

I'm sure there's still disagreement but that's where the logic was. Feel free to criticize lol
