Trading Samsonov from the looks of it will be a mistake. He will be our replacement when we trade holtby down the road. I like the idea though

NO! Never trade Samsonov, he will be better than Holtby. Plus, they have Lundqvist for years to come with Shestyorkin coming soon. They don't need Samsonov.

Huge overpay. This doesnt help the forward group, the defensive group, the short-term or long-term prospects of this team. You managed to pull all of that off with one trade. Impressive.

Overpayment? Thats a JOKE!

Keith Yandle got the following return: 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, Best prospect in organization (duclair) - you think that offer "conditional 1st" get the hell out of here. Rangers wouldn't do that in a million years... not to mention the rangers have Shesterkin - who is nearly equivilent to Samsonov...so this is a crap trade for both teams

The Rangers would take that and run. Bowey has top 4 potential, Burakovsky has top six upside, and Samsonov is going to be an elite goalie. A first round pick on top of that for a couple years of McDonagh is a massive overpayment.

No...they wouldn't...and you overrate Bowey massively ...burakovsky is not the type of player the rangers like...and again you miss the part of Shesterkin having stats on par with Samsonov in the KHL.... so no... this is not a trade the rangers make

aside from the fact that BOWEY's AHL numbers are not top 4 material.

You also HAVE TO OVERPAY - if you expect to get the CAPTAIN and BEST PLAYER from a DIVISION RIVAL...

idk. Bowey's ahl #s aren't exactly reassuring, and burakovsky has upside but he isn't having the best season with injuries/being scratched/etc. Samsonov has the most value of the bunch but the rangers already have sheshtyorkin.. The first round pick (which is conditional here) is the best thing here the rangers get out of it. If the pick was guaranteed we'd be having a conversation the the rangers may take that deal and pawn off the assets gotten to fit more their needs.. but then.. why do this trade if you are going to do that? if this is the most the caps would offer i would say no. Considering the haul shattenkirk got as a rental, mcdonagh should get more because he is signed for another year. too much risk for too little upside for the rangers here

He's not in the AHL anymore. Sheshtyorkin is older than Samsonov, so if we're going off of a developmental curve, then yeah, Samsonov is better. Any rebuild is essentially a risk, so if you want to do that, you have to take players with upside. That's what you're getting in this deal. I guarantee you that nobody is going to offer the Rangers anything close to this for McDonagh.

caps dont probably dont make this trade for ek.....so it goes wothout saying they dont do this for McDonagh

McDonagh is good but not worth it

also how did that yandle trade work for the rangers......i mean the caps trade forsberg for erat you think they can get tara off the blues for bret connelly? no dont bring up dumb trades from the past to justify an overpayment

I think take Bowey and Samsonov out and make first round pick this year and not conditional and its closer to fair. Caps have to throw one more piece in whatever that may be. But Gorton is not going to trade McDonagh or Zuccarello this deadline unless a significant return comes through. And that return has to be right for the rangers. They're not going into panic mode and completely starting over. Simply sellers.
Also, you cannot rely on Russian players to always make the jump to the NHL. Some of them just don't come for whatever reason, I'm not entirely sure why. But the latest group of goalies that are in that boat not only include Samsonov and Shestyorkin, but also Sorokin.
