Bargain Hunting the Deadline

Description
Obviously the bottom 6 need work for the Flyers. Can't see Hexy spending big to fix things in the short run, but perhaps some bargains can be found. Per TSN, Ward and Hansen could be sold by San Jose as pending UFAs. The Flyers do the same here with Flip. It's not a pure sell move by San Jose, as they swap bottom of the order veteran wingers who could both use a change of scenery. To make up for the salary commitment to Weise, the Sharks pocket a token early 7th rounder.

As a big body, the Flyers can use Ward on the 2nd power play unit in front of the net. Finally, both units can work the same system. I have Travis Sanheim recalled and playing some PP2 minutes as the left hand shot. It's a bit radical to have a D man play like a forward there, but he has offensive ability, so the Flyers might as well take advantage of it.

The PK on the other hand still has its issues. Maybe Vecchione can make the difference there, as well as add some juice to the third line. Thoughts?

I like this a lot the Ward trade doesn’t make us much better but gets rid of Weise. Hopefully we could get more for Filppula, but we definitely do not need him anymore since both Patrick and Laughton have jumped him in the depth chart. I think we should also ship out Manning to someone looking for some Defensive depth. Possibly trade Neuvirth if there are any takers. Lastly, I’ve been thinking about swapping Lethera out for a PKer like Krüger of the Hurricanes.

Aside from hoping to get more for Filppula, this is solid. Do you think Ward waves his NTC?

I really have no idea. I was just going off some musings from the talking heads on TSN that Ward and Hansen are on the block. I suppose Ward would like the idea of getting PP2 time and going to a (presumably) playoff team. If the Flyers bottom out and the Sharks go on a run, none of this happens.
