I think value is very fair for that MTL trade, but a lot of Pens fans on here think Sprong is Jesus, so expect hate. I'd probably like to see the market before making that trade.

PIT has no need for that COL trade. Just keep Cole and the team's chemistry.

I would agree that value is fair. but it doesn't work for MTL. Danault is literally their only true Center that can move up into the top 6 and be successful. Danault was a 1st rd pick (26th overall), and PIT 1st would probably be in the same 25+ range. really don't see why MTL would do this, Danault is not for sale.

And I've watched a few AHL games from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins against the Laval Rocket, Sprong looks alright. he definitely has skill, but MTL has someone similar who imo is better. Nikita Scherbak. with that being said, Scherbak doesn't carry that much value, having not shown much at the NHL level (but hasn't got a chance either). So Sprong for me isn't the player that would make me want to pull this kind of deal.

MTL is not trading Danault nor Byron. this package is made up of Pitt's scraps ... we have plenty of scrap in this team and I rather stick to the scraps we already got

also... Danault might be your 3rd center... he is our first right now -> the only C you could get from MTL is Pleck

While value might be here, MTL simply cannot afford to trade Danault. He might be their only natural Top-9 center going into next season.

You do realize Montreal has the best goalie prospect pool in probably the league right? Not to mention the fact that all you do for habs posts is say how stupid they are and never say how to improve them.

Jarry, Gustavsson, DeSmith? All potential starters, expect a maybe for DeSmith. Who does MTL have?

Well I wouldn't say deepest, but probably top 5, they have 4 solid guys down the pipeline (Lindgren, McNiven, Primeau, and you can add Hawkey who's emerging as a decent goalie prospect). Fucale is a bust.

Point is MTL doesn't need goalies. Price with Lindgren as back up / starter potential and McNiven pushing not far behind for the next 3-4 years, than Primeau and Hawkey 3-4 years after that.

Montreal is certainly more than Danault away from being even a playoff team so moving him for quality young prospects ("scraps") and picks is the wise move as well as prudent to try and help ensure a better draft selection for the future. Face it, it's rebuild time.

Obviously Price is gonna be the man there for quite a while so use the top 5 best goalie prospects pool to get better centers. DeSmith is a quality back-up type player that can be had affordably for a few years to help keep Price healthy for the upswing after the re-build.

Danault is still young and fits perfectly in a rebuild. Honestly, I've got nothing against you Pens fans, but to me you guys are all starting to sound like horrible salesmen...trying to convince us like we "need" to to give up our Centers.... So from a team that needs to keep the good ones they have....go do your sales pitch elsewhere.

We've talked about this before and I certainly see your point but Cole has value and no future after this year so getting a player like Barbiero, who has really good possession stats, keeps the Pens D depth as well as a preview should they decide to resign him. Oleksiak and Barbiero I think could be a really good 3rd pairing.

Not trying to convince anyone. Danault is a 3C that can reach to a 2C in limited action. How many time are you gonna get an offer of a 1st and a good winger prospect for a 3C that has had 1 good year? Hell, kickstart the rebuild and package the Pens 1st and 2nd, add your 2018 2nd and your best goalie prospect to WPG for Jack R. and get someone who could be a true 1C.

Scraps? Are you kidding? Sprong is a top prospect and proven himself that he can hang in the nhl if he isn’t behind 4746745 right wingers like he is in Pittsburgh. That’s legit the only reason that he hasn’t gotten full time in the nhl yet. He has a deadly shot, and for Montreal, that would be huge since they really don’t have many offensive threats. DeSmith is solid. Think he will become a serviceable backup that can go as a starter for short periods when injuries occur. A 1st in a deep draft and a 2nd is very fair value. Not saying it is the package that MTL needs or should go for, but it’s very fair

wasn't trying to single you out, just a general statement. Danault is a #3C right now, he's young and still getting better which is why I have no problem when he move's up into the top 6, because he can do it. That versatility at C is highly sought after, and to an extant, relatively hard to find. So why trade him? MTL has older better assets to move to go get those legit center prospects (Pacioretty comes to mind).

Danault is part of the solution in MTL, I doubt he's for sale, unless like you said a legit Center prospect who's projecting higher than him is coming the other way, but that won't be from PIT
