If you are St. Louis do you make this trade? Do you really see Max as the guy that is going to bring you to the promise land. Not much of a track record.
And even if you are going to take a shot do you really want to give up a 1st and a legit C prospect for 2 years of Max when you might not be able to resign Paul Statsny.

I think Max would be a better fit in Edmonton or L.A.

More like Patches for Barbashev, Schmaltz and a late 4th round pick. Blues are not trading their core young players for an over paid third liner.

someone worded it great in another post
'' if STL isnt ready to contend and have a 30 goal scorer on third like PIT ignore this post ''

take thomas and schultz out and insert Kaspick and make the 2nd conditional first if patches re-signs with STL

STL gets patches with retained cap and maybe their first cup

MTL gets a Center for today and one to develop in Laval with picks

we dont really care if its thomas or kaspick or stevens for that matter we just want a center to develop with 1 solid piece and picks
that isnt unreasonable

The problem is, is that the Blues have enough third line players. Blues don't need to over spend on a player that may or may not score over 20-30 goals. He doesn't even guarantee the Blues better seeding in the playoffs let alone a Cup.

Blues need to look at these trades proactively not retro. We don't care what they did in the past, that isn't going to help the Blues advance. Montreal can want want want all they say but the deal has to be good for both clubs.
