One of the best 3C's in the league. I like the cap hit, but not sure about the term, the last 2 years might be a problem. Gonna say it's still a good contract for now though.

Interesting. He got exactly what he’s making now. I expected Stephenson to fill the 3C role next year, but I’m okay with Eller staying since he didn’t get a raise

Eller is a 3C, plain and simple. However 5 years is way too long.

cap hit is exactly what you would expect to pay for a solid #3 C, term could become an issue. WSH don't seem too bothered about the future though, seeing the term they gave to Oshie, it's all about the now for the Caps

Glad Eller found a home where he's appreciated.
Typically don't want to give 5 year terms to 3rd line forwards, but it shouldn't be an issue where Eller is involved.

This is an okay deal but Washington can't really afford to celebrate anything until Carlson signs or they land a big UFA.

The $ is fine, and the length of term will be offset by the rising cap. The deal will look great in 2 years. Additionally, the deal includes no NMC at all, and his cap hit for an acquiring team will only be $3mm come year 3. It's a good contract that is easily moveable if things don't go as well as expected. And Lars is as consistent as they come. Good job by BMGM here.

I think it is just way to much. The cap is fine but the term is kinda out of whack. I know that the caps have to work around the salary cap so they give him lots of term for less money but still.

You make that sound like its a bad thing :P Not everyone can be McDavid and a good teams need average players in terms of depth!

I literally never said it was a bad thing, nor did I imply he should be as good as McDavid.

Ah i may have read it wrongly or assumed you meant that him being an average player was a reason for the extention to be bad. My mistake.

This is a pretty good signing IMO. As has been pointed out, come year 3, this becomes a pretty easy contract to move should the need arise.
