I think Lou would not approve both of your trades as they do not help the Leafs.

Firstly, I think Carrick is very under-rated as a 2nd year right handed shooting defenceman with alot of puck moving abilities and can play quite tough for his size. The Leafs actually play quite well when he is in the line-up because he knows how to move the puck up ice and fast. Babcock was giving Carrick some tough love early in the season to make him play better and harder defence and the message seemed to work. As a result, I do not think Lou is interested in giving up a 2nd year defenceman with alot of upside and a second round draft pick for Hjalmarrson whose best years are behind him and whose stats were greatly inflated when he played on some great Hawks teams in the past. His contract is also too expensive and the Leafs can spend their money in a much better way.

Secondly, there is no point to acquiring Ryan Stome as Leafs have better prospects on the Marlies that they could just promote and he certainly is not better than either Josh Leivo or Sosh in a 1 for 1 trade. If Lou trades either Leivo or Sosh they will be taking back draft picks or they will be included in a bigger deal to pick up another veteran centre or defenceman. Strome is an over-rated hockey player and is going to be looking for a new home very shortly. I would not be surprised if Marc Bergevin, the most incompetent GM in the NHL picks him up and trys to sell Strome and his upside potential to the Montreal fans to try to salvage his GM job in Montreal. However, I think the Montreal fans have stopped drinking Bergevin's kool-aid because they keep getting sick and now are starting to vote with their feet.

I feel Carrick will get lost in the shuffle. He will never move up and take time in the top four. Hjalrmerstrom is an upgrade on Polak and as a 5/6 defenceman with lots of playoff experience and a couple rings he can stabilize the d and move up if need be.

My thinking on Leivo and Shosh are the same. They won’t play. Two for one will get rid of a contract and maybe strome can fill in for Bozak next season. He’s a cheaper younger Bozak. Babcock got Kadri to play better defence and maybe he can do the same for strome. We need center depth. Nobody on the Marlins is ready.

I understand your logic but we probably both a agree to disagree on Carrick.

You could be right on Strome being a replacement for Bozak if Babcock could turn him around. However, I think I would sooner turn Leivo and Sosh into draft picks under Mark Hunter's control to restock the Leafs prospect pool.
