Does McDonagh to the Blues Make Sense?

Created by: krakowitz
Team: 2017-18 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 16, 2018
Published: Feb. 16, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think this is something that makes a lot of sense for the Blues to do. Having to go two years without a first round pick hurts, but the prospect pool is strong enough to take it. I tried to make this trade without giving up any of the Blues' prized forward prospects (Kostin, Kyrou, Thompson, Thomas), and moving out Bouwmeester's salary was a must to make it happen. McDonagh gives the Blues an elite shutdown defender, which is an absolute necessity when they go up against teams like Winnipeg and Nashville.

Vanek was added because there was also a need for a top 9 forward.

Blues fans, thoughts?

I think it makes sense, but I think the Blues might need to add Thompson or Kostin. How about Bouw, Barbashev, Kostin, 1st?

Can the Rangers then flip Bouwmeester at 50% to the Caps for a 2nd in 2019?

That would work too. I tried putting together a deal that didn't give up any of those top forward prospects, but if the Rangers demand Kostin I don't think it'd be a huge deal, considering they have Kyrou, Thompson and Thomas still.

No, because then the Caps have Bouwmeester next year too, and we don't need him. Besides, you'd sit Djoos for him in the playoffs anyways, which is an even worse decision.

Honestly, you could trade Thompson in this deal and I wouldn't care. I would think NYR would want Walman in addition to Thompson and Sanford which I'm fine with
