Deadline (Brassard and Stastny trades)

Created by: STLBlues17
Team: 2017-18 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 17, 2018
Published: Feb. 17, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is based off of the report from Lou Korac last night that said the Blues and Sens were engaged in heavy trade talks for Hoffman or Brassard. I personally beleive that Hoffman would be a better fit for the team currently, but I think Brassard could be smarter for the next two years. Doug Armstrong said yesterday that the Blues are not "1 player away" and if this is true than I can't see him keeping Stastny as an "own rental." As far as centers, the Blues are in a weird position. Stastny is the 2c but is a UFA and if the Blues don't sign him then they will have a large hole at that position. However, signing Stastny long term makes no sense either because Robert Thomas will be a top c as early as the 19-20 season. I propose that the Blues use Brassard to replace Stastny and create a bridge until Thomas can be ready. Brassard would probably produce at the same clip as Stastny and the Blues would not have to lose Stastny for nothing. With Brassard to the Blues, Stastny would instantly become the best center on the market and would get at least a first round pick. This would allow the Blues to contend this year, but also to recoup lost assets from the Schenn deal

I don't think PIT has the space to take on Stasny's contract

I retained half plus the Blues could probably take back a bad contract

Why would the Blues want to take on a bad contract AND trade away our best face off winning center?

There is no point in resigning Stastny and why should we risk losing him if we aren't a true contender?

Their only bad contract is Hagelin, and Hunwick. I've seen alot of pens fans that don't want to give up hagelin. do you really want to take hunwick...?

Because that totally makes me automatically trade Sprong, 1st for rental. Agruments like that are ****. Just because another player got that doesn’t mean others team are as stupid as the team giving up that much for said player.

Dude I put Simon in there not Sprong and I added a prospect and a pick and retained half of the contract.

You are kidding right? you know Stastny will likely resign with the team after this contract for less money and still remain a top 6 player until the end of his career when they can move him to more situational roles. Unless #10 and #91 go down with season ending injuries, there is ZERO chance the Blues trade Stats.

Robert Thomas replaces Stastny next year and I would way rather trade thriw a ton of money at Tavares than resign mediocre Stastny till he’s 36 years old.

Of there's zero chance Blues trade Stastny because he has a NTC. He may waive for Pittsburgh (he'd be stupid not to) but not sure if he does.

Come back down to earth, JT is a pipe dream and this is the Blues we are talking about. They will resign Stast to a 2-3 years deal and let him retire a Blue.
