The market for Mike Green and Evander Kane right now is fascinating. Things have been very quiet with those two for a couple days, so I'd expect both of them to go for less than "fair value".

Waiver wire claims get made and then a few trades.

Blues giving up on the season by giving Stastny to a Divisional opponent.

didn't see that coming. It's one of those 'out of nowhere' trades.

Blues lost 6 straight and went from solidly sitting in 3rd in the Central to on the outside looking in at the WC.

Oh, look, it's Gary Bettman with an announcement. Could this mean a trade?

Bettman: "We have no trades to announce!"
[Crowd Noise]
Bettman: "Buffalo doesn't trade Evander Kane to Los Angeles for a 1st round pick. Detroit also doesn't trade Mike Green to Washington for a 1st round pick."

Lol, this is how this trade deadline is going.

That's it, that's the deadline. Only 8 trades (unless there are some announced after the deadline).

That was a garbage trade by the Nucks.

Benning didn't even get a pick - not even a 7th.

Then I was reading the other day how Benning was "pursuing Motte for a while".... Who the heck pursues a player like Motte? He has no upside, he's a fringe NHL player at best and if he wanted Motte he could have got him for a 4th at most.... Didn't know 4th round picks are that important - especially when you want a stud like Motte..lol

This was easily the worst trade of the day.

You would think he could have gotten something for Vanek.. Heck at last years TDL he got a 3rd round pick & Dylan McIlrath.. I mean Vanek's production is pretty much identical to last season's..

He might not be a full-time NHLer, but he might be also. He has potential. Sure, they could have got something a bit better but it wasn't terrible.

I've seen him play - he was a Hawk but Bowman moved him in the Saad/Panarin trade...

Sure, anything can happen but this kid is a reach... He's not very big, he's a natural center and he's not very good on draws.... He plays 10 minutes a night...

He's really just a 4th line energy player you toss out there to give the other guys a rest, of course that's why I was baffled by Benning pursuing him since last season.

It is what it is, I just wouldn't expect much out of Motte... If it matters I had high hopes for him a few years ago because he had a great camp then followed that up with an excellent preseason, and if I remember correctly he was one of the last players cut by the Hawks... He played 30 games for the Hawks but didn't do much and was pretty much used as an "energy" player on the 4th line playing 10 minutes a night.

I'll say this much tho - I'm sure he would look like Wayne Gretzky in a beer league, lol.

I've seen AHL fodder skate circles around beer leaguers ..... So you're good at hockey if you're playing pro hockey in North America..

I don't mean to bash the guy, I'm just being honest.

Okay, with under 2 months to go before the deadline, i'll bring back this thread because i want to ask a question: Who's a player you think will or could be traded before the deadline? If Columbus isn't looking like a playoff team, Panarin will probably be traded. Also, i could see Ottawa trading Stone or Duchene (and probably re-signing the other).

Anyone have a bold prediction for before the deadline? I'm gonna say that LA surprises and keeps Martinez, Quick, Carter, AND Toffoli past the deadline. Some of those guys might be moved in the offseason but that's my bold prediction.

LAK is the team furthest from a playoff spot. I don't see Quick, Doughty or Kopitar going, but more trades are coming.
I see players like Clifford, Leipsic, Thompson, Carter, Phaneuf and Martinez being candidates....obviously not all of them, but 2 or 3.
Martinez is definitely likely to bring in the best return. Probably similar to what they got for Muzzin, give or take a piece.

It's a bold prediction i made, i know. I just don't see them moving those guys in-season. But who knows? They're the furthest team from a playoff spot in the west, but not in the whole league. They're actually somehow only 6 points out and they have an extra game.
