I’d rather not trade any picks, but if Orpik ends up sitting, I’m okay with it. But knowing Trotz, Djoos is probably going to sit. That’s when I’ll be pissed off

I think this is a fair deal. It's not a heavy price to pay considering WAS had (2) 3rd round picks. Kempny brings energy and speed. He's a rental so no long term contract to take on. Orpik might get suspended anyway...because he's Orpik... They needed some depth. Solid move by WAS...good return by Bowman.

Who won the deal? both teams won the deal. I'm impressed Bowman got a 3rd out of Kempny.

Kempny is nothing special, he's a "meh" #5/depth defenseman..

It's a very good return for CHI because Kempny wasn't playing every day and is a pending UFA. From WSH's standpoint, they should've given up a later pick. But not a huge loss, as Kempny >>>> Orpik.

Kempny is not worth a 3rd rounder, I had expected him to go for a 4th at the highest.

Good to know Schlemko is worth a 2nd since Kempny got a 3rd :P And Bergevin only paid a 5th for him! yay

Chicago just watched Orpik be faulty for three goals the other night, so they knew how badly we needed to get him out of the lineup.

You do realize the difference between a 3rd round pick and a 4th round pick is like 1% when it comes to chance of drafting a player that will play in the NHL right?

This has been a steal of a trade for us so far. Kempný has been a terrific top four defenseman. Nothing flashy, but stable. That’s what we needed, and it came for only a third rounder. Beautiful work by GMBM.

Yes, great deal for Washington. He's been great with Carlson. I think a lot of us saw it as a depth add.

I'm not angry at all - the guy didn't work here...... I know some Hawks fans are mad, but why?? he didn't work in Q's system - he wasn't a fit here..

The real question is how much is Washington going to pay him this summer given his performance? 4x4 16 million dollar deal? lol

Well Hawks fans are pissed off..... I went out for a couple of drinks and started talking hockey with this dude at the bar and he was bashing Bowman and portraying Kempny as the next Ray Bourque or Bobby Orr.....lol.. He said this trade was "one of the worst trades in Blackhawks history".....

Kempny didn't work in Chicago - it happens, sometimes players don't work with one team but they work with another..... Trevor Daley is another example of a guy that didn't work in Chicago but he worked in Pittsburgh...... So what? what were the Hawks supposed to do? redesign their defense and strategies to work around these guys?

It's no ones fault that Kempny didn't work in Chicago... He didn't fit the Hawks game/style/strategies etc..

I'm happy with the 3rd round pick (watch the Hawks draft a stud with the pick too), and although I really don't like the Caps I'm happy things worked out for him in Washington.
